  • Publication number: 20080112125
Abstract: A portable hard disk drive includes a housing, a hard drive assembly disposed within the housing, and isolation material coupled to the hard drive assembly. The housing forms an enclosure defined by opposing first and second ends, opposing sides extending between the opposing first and second ends, and a top surface opposite a bottom surface. The hard drive assembly is disposed within the enclosure. The isolation material displaces the hard drive assembly from the opposing first and second ends by an end sway space and displaces the hard drive assembly from each of the opposing sides by a side sway space. In this regard, the end sway space is greater than the side sway space.

  • Patent number: 6585021
Abstract: A CD label applicator kit including a case, a support device and an applicator tool. The case includes a base and cover that provides a label plate. The label forms an opening. The support device includes an alignment post, a hub and a spring. The alignment post is affixed to an outer wall of the cover and extends outwardly through the opening. The hub is slidably disposed about the alignment post and defines a disk-receiving surface. The spring biases the hub to a raised position in which the disk-receiving surface is above the label plate. Finally, the applicator tool forms a central passage sized for selective placement about the alignment post. In one preferred embodiment, the kit includes a label sheet pack and a software disk stored within the base, and a writing utensil secured to the cover.

  • Patent number: 6490242
Abstract: A data storage disk cartridge having a dual housing structure includes an inner housing that contains a disk, and an outer housing that contains the inner housing. The inner housing is at least partially removable from the outer housing for insertion into a disk drive. The outer housing remains external to the disk drive, however, except for a portion that is inserted into the drive to provide a docking channel for retraction of the inner housing. A shutter on the inner housing covers a portion of the disk, but is manipulable by the disk drive to uncover the disk and allow drive access. The dual housing structure of the cartridge is capable of significantly improving disk and drive reliability, particularly for recording applications that require higher areal recording densities, such as near field optical recording. In particular, the disk cartridge reduces the accumulation of debris on the disk and drive components.
