Patent number: 9081476Abstract: An electronic programming guide (“EPG”) provides pictograms and/or logos, to indicate to a television viewer the programs being displayed on a television. The EPG information display format is thus easier to recognize than prior EPG formats. The EPG pictograms may have 3D characteristics. The EPG information can be displayed in a window within a television screen while a program is being shown on the remainder of the screen. The EPG comprises a set of geometric surfaces located in virtual 3D space. The pictograms and/or logos, along with alpha-numeric text data and video clips are applied to the geometric surfaces using a 3D graphics pipeline. The appearance of the pictograms, logos, alpha-numeric data and/or video clips can be modified in response to a user actuating a control element on a remote controller. In one embodiment, internet HTML pages are parsed and applied to geometric surfaces in 3D virtual space.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2009Date of Patent: July 14, 2015Assignee: JLB VENTURES LLCInventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman

Patent number: 8683512Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer readable media, and Apparatus is provided for viewing a second content item while a first content item plays an advertisement. When the first content item is changed to a second content item on a display, a window region displays an advertising item related to the advertisement. The advertising item in the window region is modified when the advertisement has ended, alerting the user the advertisement is over. In another embodiment, the advertisement comprises a first and second commercial played in succession, and the advertising item in the window region comprises a first and second product item. In this embodiment, the window region displays the first product item when the first commercial is played in the advertisement, and the second product item when the second commercial plays in the advertisement.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2012Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: JLB Ventures LLCInventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman

Patent number: 8171510Abstract: Apparatus is provided by which a television viewer can view other images e.g. during commercials or main program. For example, during a commercial, a viewer may channel surf or surf the internet. A banner is provided on a viewing screen while the viewer watches these other images. In this way the advertiser providing those commercials can still reach those viewers who are channel or internet surfing. Also, the banner will indicate to the viewer when the commercial is over and the normal programming has resumed. In another embodiment, during the main program user can activate one or more small commercial windows and position them on the screen based on his preference, e.g. using a remote device. Information is communicated to a broadcaster by the viewer's video system indicating the above-mentioned commercial windows are open on the viewer's screen.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2010Date of Patent: May 1, 2012Assignee: JLB Ventures LLCInventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman

Patent number: 7685534Abstract: A three-dimensional browser wherein in an exemplary embodiment, information from a uniform resource locator is converted into at least one texture. The texture is mapped onto a surface of a three-dimensional object located in a virtual three-dimensional space in order to provide a three-dimensional navigation mechanism. In an alternate arrangement an event associated with an image is intercepted and the location of the event in the corresponding geometric surface of the virtual three-dimensional space is computed. This location is converted to a two-dimensional coordinate and thereafter information pertaining to the event is placed on the surface on the three-dimensional object in the virtual three-dimensional space.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2001Date of Patent: March 23, 2010Assignee: JLB Ventures LLCInventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman

Patent number: 7013428Abstract: A video system comprises a screen. Interactive linking is provided based on a representative set of region-based templates. Each template can be associated with said screen. The template comprises a set of active areas (usually non-intersecting), that can be actuated by moving a cursor to those areas, to thereby invoke a process or link. The link can be to a web page or other information source. In addition to template usage for surfing of active screen areas, templates can be used for secure link (process) activation. Each region can be considered as a symbol (“letter”) in the password. By using mouse or similar device user can click (“type”) a sequence of symbols to follow an existing password.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2001Date of Patent: March 14, 2006Inventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman

Patent number: 6570586Abstract: A video signal transmission system transmits a video signal and data corresponding to the location and size of active areas for some of the frames of the video signal (but not other frames of the video signal). A video reception and display system determines the location and size for the active areas based on an interpolation technique. A viewer can click on the active areas to thereby link the receiving system to a web page or other information source.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1999Date of Patent: May 27, 2003Assignee: ISURFTVInventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon A. Patent number: 6525728Abstract: A method in accordance with our invention permits the manipulation of a two-dimensional pixel array using a standard 3D graphics pipeline. The method comprises the steps of forming a wire mesh of the two-dimensional image. This wire mesh comprises a set of triangles, in which all of the vertices and sides of the triangles are located in the same plane in x, y, z coordinate space. The 2D image is then mapped into the mesh. The resulting object representation can then be manipulated in the same manner that 3D representations are manipulated by a 3D graphics pipeline.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2001Date of Patent: February 25, 2003Assignee: ISURFTVInventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman

Publication number: 20020167515Abstract: A method in accordance with the invention comprises the step of providing a) pixel array and a computer model of a geometric surface, and b) providing a second array (a Z array) containing information concerning the 3D characteristics of the structure depicted in the pixel array. The Z array is used to modify the location of the geometric surface. The pixel array and modified geometric surface are then used to render an image that can be displayed on a CRT or other output device. By modifying the geometric surface model in this way, it is possible to create more realistic images.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2002Publication date: November 14, 2002Inventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman

Method and apparatus for using a 3D graphics pipeline and 3D imaging for cost effective watermarking
Patent number: 6452594Abstract: A pixel array of an image and a computer model of a geometric surface are embedded within a piece of software. An image is rendered using the pixel array and the computer model of the geometry using a 3D graphics pipeline. A special virtual lighting source is used by the pipeline to provide virtual illumination of the image. This is done as part of a process of verifying the authenticity of the software.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1999Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Assignee: isurfTVInventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman -
