A barrier or strut is formed on the condom which prevents any liquid exchange between the inner and outer surfaces during the use of the condom. The plug is disk shaped and has a circumferential groove receiving the bead of the condom. A sealing member is provided that forms a seal in the groove between the plug and the bead of the condom. A cover may be provided to fit over the plug. Alternatively, an assembly is provided with a condom and a cover, the plug being omitted.
