  • Patent number: 9301120
Abstract: We disclose a new type of wireless telecommunications subscription service and related methods. In some embodiments, the new subscription service may be used by an eCall only MS, or by any other suitable wireless access device (NAD), in order to operate in a restricted access and mobility management (RAMM) mode (304). The RAMM service limits usage of network resources, while enabling utilization for certain limited kinds of calls. The service may be used for eCall, in the case of motor vehicles (FIG. 1), for example, or for machine to machine communications and remote alarms (FIG. 6). The new subscription service may be used to avoid an eCall only MS being denied access to a network due to non-use of a prepaid (USIM) subscription (314).

  • Patent number: 9049261
Abstract: A computing device is described that receives an indication of a notification, and determines a priority level associated with the notification. The computing device determines, based at least in part on the priority level, content of the notification. Responsive to receiving an indication of a gesture detected at an input device, the computing device outputs, for display, a notification center graphical user interface that includes a graphical indication of the notification including the content of the notification.

  • Patent number: 9002574
Abstract: Systems, software and methods are disclosed for using a mobile phone (1640) in conjunction with a head unit (1620) of a vehicle. The user interface of a user application program (1644) executing on the mobile phone is extended to utilize a generic display screen (2104) of the head unit, so that custom or per application development of head unit software can be avoided. Preferably, a handset application proxy (HAP) software application (1642) is installed and executable in the mobile phone; and a head unit proxy (HUP) software component (1630) is executable on the head unit. The HAP and the HUP communicate messages (1814, 1824) between the head unit and the mobile phone. Preferably, the HAP (1700) includes a scripting language component (1710) associated with the user application (Nomadic Appn), and having a template message translator component (1712).

  • Patent number: 8971839
Abstract: An in-vehicle system (IVS) captures data such as location data and in an emergency automatically places a call to an emergency call taker or PSAP via a wireless telecommunications network. After a voice call session is established, the IVS system transmits a predetermined control signal through the voice channel. The control signal directs the call taker system to prepare to receive data. Preferably, the control signal comprises at least one audio frequency tone. This may be done without human intervention. In this way, emergency information is transmitted accurately and with minimum delay. After transmission of essential information, the IVS system may switch on audio connections for live human voice conversation.
