Patents by Inventor Leon M. Polinski

Leon M. Polinski has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 4270896
Abstract: A catalyst system capable of operating at very high temperatures is disclosed. The catalyst is divided into upstream and downstream portions, the upstream portion being protected against both thermal conductivity and radiant heat transfer from the downstream portion. Advantageously, the upstream portion may use a more active catalyst composition then the downstream portion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 15, 1978
Date of Patent: June 2, 1981
Assignee: Engelhard Minerals & Chemicals Corporation
Inventors: Leon M. Polinski, George W. Roberts, Saul G. Hindin
  • Patent number: 4220559
Abstract: Catalysts having good high temperature stability which are particularly useful for carrying out high temperature reactions, such as combustion reactions at temperatures of the order of 1000.degree.-1400.degree. C., are disclosed. The catalytically active materials include precious metals, base metals or their oxides, or precious metals in combinstion with base metals, deposited on a catalyst slip or composite which contains alumina in admixture with a metal oxide component. The metal oxide component consists of a mixture of strontia or barium oxide with either molybdenum trioxide, zirconia, silica, or stannous oxide, or of a mixture of lanthana with either silica or stannous oxide. The slips or carrier compositions are calcined at a temperature of at least 500.degree. C. before deposition of the precious metal or base metal material, and are characterized by having a surface area of at least 20 m.sup.2 /g after calcination at a temperature of 1200.degree. C. for 4 hours.

  • Patent number: 4154762
Abstract: Monohydric primary or secondary saturated and unsaturated alcohols are oxidatively dehydrogenated to the corresponding aldehyde or ketone over a gold catalyst at temperatures between 280.degree.-600.degree. C. in the presence of oxygen.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 1975
Date of Patent: May 15, 1979
    Assignee: Givaudan Corporation
Inventors: I-Der Huang, Leon M. Polinski, Krishna K. Rao
  • Patent number: 4128591
Abstract: Disclosure is made of an improved catalyst and process for producing a near equilibrium mixture of xylenes from a feedstream comprising ethylbenzene and mixed xylenes. The catalyst combines a platinum-containing hydrogenation-dehydrogenation component on an alumina support with a form of hydrogen mordenite having less than about 0.3 equivalents of alkali and alkaline earth metal cations per gram-atom of aluminum and a silica to alumina mol ratio greater than about 9-11 to 1 and less than about 17 to 1.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 31, 1977
Date of Patent: December 5, 1978
Assignee: Engelhard Minerals & Chemicals Corporation
Inventors: William C. Carr, Leon M. Polinski, Saul G. Hindin, James L. Kosco
