    Abstract: A molecularly imprinted polymer denuder sensor that includes a trapping solution; a delivery device transporting the trapping solution; a denuder operatively connected to the trapping solution and contacting ambient air, wherein the denuder infuses the sample into the trapping solution; a molecularly imprinted polymer sensor operatively connected to the denuder, wherein the MIP sensor captures and detects the threat material; an excitation source operatively connected to the MIP sensor and having an excitation band, wherein the excitation band excites europium (or other signal transducing lanthanide or metal ion) in the MIP when it is bound to the threat material providing unique emission band(s); and an analytical device operatively connected to the MIP sensor, wherein the analytical device senses the presence of the threat material in the sample.

    Abstract: A chemical adsorption system and method comprising an apparatus containing a solid adsorption article comprising a known amount of a chemical adsorbate material disposed on a solid adsorbent material. Trace amounts of the adsorbate are released from the adsorbent using an inert gas. By controlling various parameters such as the temperature of the adsorption article, the amount of the adsorbate on the adsorbent, and the flow rate of inert gas through the apparatus, the amount of chemical adsorbate material vapor that is released from the adsorbent can be precisely controlled and predicted. The apparatus contains no liquid chemical materials, and serves as both an internal chemical reference standard to the attached chemical vapor monitor and as a chemical surface passivator. Furthermore, the invention is capable of spanning several orders of magnitude in chemical vapor concentration from the parts-per-million (ppm) to parts-per-trillion (ppt) range.

An inhalation chamber defining a space and having an effluent inlet connected to said effluent outlet for supplying effluent into said space, said inhalation chamber having a chamber outlet for discharging effluent from said space. At least one plethysmographic box connected to said inhalation chamber for receiving a test animal and having an opening communicating with said space through which the head of a test animal can pass into said inhalation chamber space.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for testing the performance of a sample charcoal orbent material. The apparatus comprises means for supplying a gaseous sample containing toxic contaminants to a filtering means. The filtering means includes a filter tube containing a sample charcoal adsorbent material for adsorbing the toxic contaminants. Chemical analysis means are included for detecting toxic contaminants remaining in the gaseous effluent from the filtering means. Test animal chambers are also provided for exposing test animals contained therein to the gaseous effluent to determine the toxic effects and breathing rate changes on the test animals caused by toxic or irritating contaminants remaining in the gaseous effluent.
