Patent number: 9671858Abstract: In one implementation, a method includes detecting, using a processor, user input through a camera lens. The method further includes determining, using the processor, that an identity of a user, selected from identities of at least two users, is associated with the user input. The method also includes tracking, using the processor, a local interaction between the at least two users based on at least the identity, the user input, and stored rules that govern the local interaction. The tracking can include determining whether the user has complied with the stored rules that govern the local interaction. Furthermore, the local interaction can include a multiplayer game.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2014Date of Patent: June 6, 2017Assignee: Disney Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Lanny Smoot, Armen Mkrtchyan, Leonard J. Patent number: 9539506Abstract: There is provided a system and method for playsets using tracked objects and corresponding virtual worlds. There is provided an object for use with a physical environment and connectable to a virtual world corresponding to the physical environment, the object including a processor and a plurality of sensors including a position sensor. The processor is configured to establish a first connection with the virtual world, wherein the virtual world contains a virtual object corresponding to the object, determine a position of the object using the position sensor, and send the position of the object using the first connection. There is also provided a physical environment having similar capabilities as the object.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2016Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignee: Disney Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Christopher W. Heatherly, Christopher K. Shin, Natasha Berling, Robert Saygan, Leonard J. Mazzocco, Tara Cortner Hefter

Publication number: 20140129280Abstract: A method is provided for the smart packaging initiative (SPI) scoring system, with particular relevance for the toy industry. The SPI scoring system may include at least four indicators, including carbon footprint of packaging on a life-cycle basis, materials health on a life-cycle basis, waste-to-landfill measurement, and cube utilization. By using a SPI classification system, products can be placed in classes with very similar functional packaging requirements, regardless of the specific toy genre or traditional retail classification of the product. Accordingly, by utilizing data available for existing products in the industry, a baseline environmental norm for packaging categories can be established, providing a useful reference point for improvement. Further, the SPI scoring system can also support comparisons of multiple packaging scenarios for the same product, allowing users to refine their package designs towards environmentally preferable design changes.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2012Publication date: May 8, 2014Applicant: Disney Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Candela Montero, Leonard J.
