  • Patent number: 7127535
Abstract: A server computer receives back-up data from individual client computers and inserts them into a buffer within a shared memory area. The server associates an identification tag with each set of back-up data which identifies from which particular client computer the data was received. The server then multiplexes the back-up data and the identification tags onto a tape. Data from a particular client is de-multiplexed from the tape by scanning all of the identification tags on the tape and pulling off the tape any data which is associated with the identification tag corresponding to the particular client.

  • Patent number: 6742092
Abstract: A system and method for backing up data from a plurality of client computer systems. A server computer executes a plurality of processes each configured to receives back-up data from a respective one of the client computers. Each of the processes stores the back-up data into a buffer within a shared memory area. The server computer associates an identification tag with each set of back-up data which identifies from which particular client computer the data was received. The server computer then stores the back-up data and the identification tags within a storage unit. Data from a particular client is de-multiplexed from the storage unit by scanning all of the identification tags in the storage unit and sending any data which is associated with a received identification tag to the particular client.

  • Patent number: 6487644
Abstract: A system and method for backing up and restoring data from client computers at a server computer. The server computer receives back-up data from individual client computers and inserts them into a configurable buffer within a shared memory area. The server associates a client identification (ID) tag with each set of back-up data which identifies from which particular client computer the data was received. Buffer availability flags determine whether a buffer associated with a client server is full or available. The server multiplexes the back-up data and the identification tags onto a tape. Data from a particular client is de-multiplexed from the tape by scanning all of the identification tags on the tape and pulling off the tape any data-which is associated with the identification tag corresponding to the particular client.

  • Patent number: 6418995
Abstract: A dispenser from which sheet material may be manually pulled from a supply of the sheet material carried on the dispenser through a passageway defined by a frame of the dispenser. The dispenser includes a cutting member having a sharp cutting edge adapted for transversely cutting the sheet material and an elongate contact surface generally parallel to and spaced from the cutting edge. The cutting member is mounted on the frame for movement between (1) a retracted position to which it is biased at which the cutting edge is positioned to restrict contact between a person using the dispenser and the cutting edge and at which the contact surface extends along the one side of the passageway—and (2) a cutting position to which the cutting member can be moved from its retracted position by manually tensioning sheet material being pulled from the dispenser around the contact surface of the cutting member.
