The sanding sponge is made from a cellular foam material in the shape of a right prism in which the bases have the shape of an isosceles trapezoid. The sanding sponge has an abrasive coating on the bottom surface and the two lateral surfaces, and a layer of hook and loop fastening material adhesively attached to the top surface. The sanding sponge is part of a kit including a hand sander base and a pole sander head. The hand sander base has a plate with a handle on the top surface and a layer of hook and loop fastening material on the bottom surface for removably attaching the sanding sponge. The pole sander head has a plate with a universal joint attached to the top surface and a layer of hook and loop fastening material on the bottom surface.
