  • Patent number: 5460629
Abstract: An electrosurgical probe comprises an elongate probe body having a surgical hook at a distal end thereof. A paddle element is reciprocatably mounted within the distal tip of the elongate body so that it can be shifted between an extended position where it covers the hook tip and a retracted position where it leaves the hook tip exposed. The paddle thus can cooperate with the hook in tissue dissection, clean the hook, as well as provide an alternate electrosurgical probe tip for use in electrosurgical procedures.

  • Patent number: 5382231
Abstract: A device for transesophageal stomach retraction comprises an elongate shaft having a proximal handle in a distal length. The distal length is deformable so that it can assume a desired configuration, such as a J-shaped curvature, and is deflectable so that it may be repositioned within the stomach. The proximal length may further include vacuum ports which permit the stomach to be drained and collapsed on the distal length to enhance contact. [This way, the] The treating physician inserts the device through the mouth of the patient with the distal length penetrating the stomach. Thereafter, the device is moved from the proximal end to manipulate the distal ends to move the stomach. Preferably, the device is deformed prior to such moving into a desired curvature, preferably a J-shaped configuration. The vacuum ports are utilized to draw the stomach over the device.

  • Patent number: 5345949
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for performing laparoscopic gastroplasty for the treatment of morbid obesity. The method utilizes a stapling device or clip and a nasogastric tube for positioning the stapling device. A non-absorbable staple support strip or clip is to form and support a passage between a proximal pouch and a distal region in the stomach.

  • Patent number: 5263927
Abstract: A surgical packing dispenser comprises an elongate tube having a housing mounted on its proximal end. A continuous roll of sterilized packing material is disposed within the housing, and a free end of the packing material extends distally through the tube. The sterilized packing material is mounted on the spindle, and a handle is provided to rotate the spindle to feed material from the roll down the dispenser tube. In this way, relatively lengthy amounts of the packing material can be dispensed during laparoscopic and other endoscopic surgical procedures.
