Abstract: A system for handling alerts of an event, the event comprising delivery of data to a user device, comprises a receiver for receiving an event notification, a processor for acquiring information relating to the users likely current activity, for acquiring filtering information, and for comparing the users likely current activity with the filtering information and an output device for outputting an alert to the user dependent upon the comparison of the users likely current activity with the filtering information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving user access to content of interest to the user across a range of media and formats is provided, the method comprising a) identifying the content of a user selected content source conveyed to a user by a user's content conveyer apparatus, b) searching all available content sources and/or previously provided descriptions of content sources for content similar to that identified in step a), c) identifying content sources searched in step b) which contain similar content, and d) configuring content conveyers, on start up, to display a content source identified in step c).

Abstract: A portable data processing apparatus (120) receives information identifying interaction opportunities for a user of the apparatus and presents them via a display (10). For each identified interaction opportunity, a processor (130) generates a respective display icon (38, 18). The processor generates a user interface having at least first (12), second (16) and third (14) display panes, with newly generated display icons (38) being initially displayed in the first display pane (12). Subsequently, icons (18) are moved to the second display pane (16) and arranged according to a predetermined prioritisation scheme. On user selection of a displayed icon, additional data associated with the selected icon is displayed in the third display pane (14).
