  • Patent number: 6939190
Abstract: A method of cleaning the neck of a funnel of a CRT during the manufacture thereof. The method includes: inserting a drain tube within the neck, wherein a gap exists between the drain tube and the neck; directing a fluid through the gap; and draining the fluid that was directed through the gap through the drain tube, whereby the fluid removes material from the neck that was applied during a prior coating process and any dirt. The drain tube is part of a cleaning apparatus that further includes a housing and a labyrinth flow controller positioned within the housing adjacent to the drain tube forming a laminar flow section whereby fluid is directed through the housing and into the tube.

  • Patent number: 6638130
Abstract: A method and apparatus for attaching a tension mask to a mask frame. The apparatus is comprised of a clamping plate upon which is mounted a frame clamp and a frame deflector assembly. Above the clamping plate is located a mask clamp assembly comprising a forming slide. A mask frame is inserted into the frame clamp and secured on a plurality of axes to the top of the clamping plate. As the mask frame is secured, a compression force is applied to the mask frame by the frame deflector assembly and a tension mask is aligned and positioned to the top of the mask frame. While the mask frame is in compression, a forming edge on the forming slide conforms an edge of the tension mask to the mask frame where it is then affixed. The compression force on the mask frame is then released causing the frame to impart a tension force on the tension mask.

  • Patent number: 6604974
Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying crosswires to a tension mask. The method includes winding crosswires around various drum assemblies and then using transfer devices to remove sections of crosswires and transfer them to tension mask frame assemblies.

  • Patent number: 6600258
Abstract: The present invention provides a tension mask for a cathode-ray tube. The tension mask has an active aperture portion formed by a plurality of parallel strands extending between cantilevers on opposed sides of a mask support frame. The tension mask further comprises border shields mounted over each end of the frame cantilevers, whereby the strand ends are held to the cantilevers in a predetermined spaced-apart relationship. The border shields on opposing sides of the frame extend toward the active aperture portion of the tension mask and is substantially aligned with the screen matrix of the CRT. The tension mask has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than that of the mask frame, cantilevers, and border shield.

  • Patent number: 6007952
Abstract: The invention includes an apparatus 40, 140 for developing a latent charge image formed on a photoreceptor 36 disposed on an interior surface of a faceplate panel 12. The apparatus 40, 140 comprises a developer tank 42 having a sidewall 44 closed at one end by a bottom portion 46 and at the other end by a panel support 48 having an opening 50 therethrough to provide access to the faceplate panel 12. The back electrode 52 has a potential applied thereto to establish an electrostatic drift field between the back electrode and the photoreceptor 36, which is grounded. Triboelectrically-charged, dry-powdered, light emitting phosphor material, having a charge of the same polarity as the potential applied to the back electrode 52, is injected into the developer tank 42, between the back electrode 52 and the faceplate panel 12. The triboelectrically-charged phosphor material is directed toward the photoreceptor 36 on the faceplate panel 12 by the applied electrostatic drift field.
