  • Patent number: 5903934
Abstract: A bathtub of integral construction especially adapted for installation in a private residence has a sump bottom spaced a sufficient distance above the floor and an opening in the apron leading to the space beneath the sump. The sump bottom spacing and apron opening enable the positioning of a portion of the undercarriage of a mobile patient lift underneath the sump bottom so that the bather supported by the lift can be positioned directly above the sump. Accordingly, the bather, who may be an invalid or other seriously physically handicapped person, may be transferred to a residential style bathtub in his home without having to disembark the lift. The invention also includes methods of making the bathtubs and using them with the mobile patient lifts.
