  • Patent number: 11448188
Abstract: Methods of operating a wind turbine (1) having a generator (10) and a power converter (60). The methods may comprise: determining a reduced first power setpoint (94) in response to an operational condition; reducing active power from a line-side converter (66) to an electrical grid (80) according to the reduced first power setpoint (94); determining a reduced power setpoint (92) for a machine-side converter (62); reducing a torque applied to the generator (10) by the machine-side converter (62) such that active power according to the reduced second power setpoint (92) is produced by the generator (10); and dissipating a power surplus in one or more resistive elements (68) as long as the second power setpoint is superior to the first power setpoint. Wind turbines configured for such methods are also provided.

  • Patent number: 11053916
Abstract: Methods of operating a variable speed wind turbine in an event of a power set-point limitation are described. The methods may comprise determining whether the power set-point is below or equal to a theoretical capability of the wind turbine in accordance with prevailing wind conditions. If the power set-point is below the theoretical capability, operating the wind turbine to generate power according to the power set-point, including operating the wind turbine according to a generator torque and a generator rotor speed predefined for the power set-point. Each power set-point is defined by a combination of a generator rotor speed and a generator torque, the generator rotor speed (?min, ?1, ?2, ?max) being outside an exclusion band.

Date of Patent: July 6, 2021
Assignee: GE Renewable Technologies Wind B.V.

  • Patent number: 9714641
Abstract: A wind power turbine configured to produce and feed electric energy to an electric power grid; the wind power turbine having: a blade assembly; at least one electric machine connected to the blade assembly to generate electric energy, and having a rotor, and a stator divided into a quantity or number of stator subsystems; and an electric transmission system configured to connect the quantity or number of stator subsystems to the electric power grid, and having an electric transmission assembly for, and connected to, each stator subsystem. The wind power turbine being characterized by having a control device connected to, and configured to receive malfunction signals from, the electric transmission assemblies, and configured to define an individual target torque reference value on the basis of the malfunction signals from the electric transmission assemblies, so as to reduce discontinuity in the torque of the rotor.
