  • Publication number: 20190119831
Abstract: A bi-component staple or short-cut fibre includes a core and a sheath, the sheath and the core have different melting points, with the sheath melting point being lower than the core melting point, the bi-component fibre having an outer trilobal shaped cross-section. The core of the bi-component fibre can have a cross-section whereby the outer trilobal shaped cross-section is created by a conformal layer of sheath material applied to the core. The fibres can be used, in dry or wet wipes, absorbent articles, hygiene products, filters, carpets, rugs or mats, etc.

  • Patent number: 5973078
Abstract: Process for the production of a high tenacity propylene polymer fiber which comprises:spinning fiber from a molten propylene polymer composition consisting essentially of an olefin polymer (I) and a high molecular weight propylene polymer (II) having a branching index less than 1 and melt strength from 5 to 40 cN; said propylene polymer (II) being present in a concentration from 0.1 to 10% by weight with respect to the total weight of the composition; anddrawing the solid fiber thus obtained with a draw ratio greater than 4.5 when the spinning step is continuous and greater than 5 when the spinning step is discontinuous.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5660789
Abstract: Polyolefin fibers, suitable for the preparation of nonwoven fabrics, prepared by using a spinneret or extruder with dies having a real or equivalent output diameter of the capillaries or holes greater than 0.4 mm, with the proviso that for fibers having a denier greater than or equal to 4 dtex, the ratio of the output capillary or hole diameter to the denier is greater than or equal to 0.06 mm/dtex.

  • Patent number: 5631083
Abstract: Disclosed is a drawn, polyolefin fiber useful for nonwoven fabrics, the thermobonding index of said fiber being 4.5-9 Newtons, and the flexibility index thereof being 1020-1500. The fiber is composed of a blend of specified polymers. Also disclosed is a process for making the fiber by spinning the blend from a die hole having at the output end a diameter less than 0.5 mm, and drawing the resulting fiber at a draw ratio of 1.1 to 1.8.
