  • Patent number: 4610331
Abstract: A driven wheel hub suitable for industrial vehicles, agricultural machine civil engineering equipment and materials handling equipment is closed by a removable cover independent of a flange enabling a wheel to be attached to it. It comprises a hollow body within which is a gear assembly and at least one brake disk constrained to rotate with the wheel shaft, the clamping of which is controlled by a hydraulic control unit. The hydraulic control unit is entirely accommodated within a housing formed for this purpose within the corresponding stub axle, and this housing is open in the axial direction on the same side as the cover.

  • Patent number: 4576256
Abstract: A hub for a wheel having a built-in brake assembly and suitable for use in ndustrial vehicles, agricultural machinery, civil engineering plant and materials handling plant comprises a stub axle on which is rotatably mounted a hollow body forming a casing to contain a lubricating and cooling fluid. A brake assembly with fixed and rotatable disks is disposed within the hollow body inside an annulus constrained to rotate with the stub axle. Associated with the annulus is a scooping device adapted to provide communication between the interior of the annulus and the annular space between the annulus and the hollow body, for improved supply of the lubricating and cooling fluid to the interior of the annulus.

  • Patent number: 4562903
Abstract: The invention is applicable to a wheel hub of the kind comprising within a hollow body closed by a cover, a reducer having a pinion-carrier, and a brake with a brake disc capable of being subjected to an axial clamping force which is counter-supported by the cover. According to the invention, the pinion-carrier forms a part which is separate both from the hollow body and from the cover and which bears axially on an abutment itself locked axially on the hollow body, thereby itself closing the hollow body transversely immediately before the cover. The result is that in order to unclamp the brake manually, it is simply necessary to act on the cover. The invention is applicable, in particular, to industrial vehicles, agricultural machines, public works machines and load-handling machines.

  • Patent number: 4540073
Abstract: A wheel hub suitable for industrial vehicles, having, in a hollow body a uction gear and a brake being located at the end of the shaft of the reduction gear. The brake has, alternating with interpolated discs rotationally fast on the hollow body, a plurality of brake discs rotationally fast on the shaft of the reduction gear, the interpolated discs being mounted to rotate freely on a single support column which is parallel to the said shaft, is offset in relation to the latter and is fixed to the hollow body.

  • Patent number: 4496017
Abstract: A wheel hub assembly for heavy-duty vehicles comprises a hollow body containing a liquid lubricant having a first compartment housing wheel drive reduction gear and a second compartment adjacent the first compartment housing a wheel brake mechanism. A portion of the sidewall of the hollow body annularly surrounds one of the compartments (preferably the second) and comprises at least one pair of longitudinally extending, oppositely sloping generally oblique grooves for circulating the lubricant between the compartments. The grooves of each pair are preferably symmetrical. Grooves sloping in a first direction are arranged along a first semi-circumferential zone and the grooves sloping in the opposite direction are arranged in a second semi-circumferential zone. In the illustrated embodiment and annular interior wall separates the compartments and comprises a planetary pinion carrier and has channels in alignment with the oblique grooves for carrying liquid between the oblique grooves and the first compartment.

  • Patent number: 4372427
Abstract: An industrial emergency brake is disclosed having a pair of braking members disposed on opposite sides of a brake member such as a brake disc. A stack of Belleville washers constantly urge each brake member towards engagement with the brake member. A retaining member normally keeps each of the braking members out of engagement with the brake member. The retaining member is a frangible explosive component containing an explosive charge and fractures to permit the stack of Belleville washers to urge the braking member into engagement with the brake member. The retaining member may be a bolt, fixed between a fixed support and the braking member, a nut bearing against the fixed support and in engagement with a stud bolt or a washer between a nut and the fixed support. A set of jacks may be used to disengage the brake.

  • Patent number: 4351423
Abstract: An industrial emergency brake is disclosed in which the braking members are disengaged gradually from the brake disc or the like after detonation of an explosive component or electromagnetic de-energization by a stud in threaded engagement with the braking member, a thermally expandable wedging member interposed between a fixed support for the brake and an abutment such as a nut on the stud. An electrical resistor or a high frequency heater heats the wedging member and gradually disengages the braking member from the brake disc.
