Patent number: 11974919Abstract: Delivery devices for delivery of a stented prosthetic heart valve. Various delivery devices include an outer sheath assembly including an outer sheath connected to a capsule that is advanced proximally to retain the prosthetic valve, which is secured over an inner shaft assembly of the delivery device. The delivery device further includes a bumper to provide a smooth transition of the capsule over the prosthetic valve during loading and recapture procedures. The bumper is expandable from a first position to a second position in which a distal end of the bumper is expanded to increase its diameter. The bumper can be biased in the second, expanded position so that the bumper automatically transitions to the expanded position upon retraction of the outer sheath.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2022Date of Patent: May 7, 2024Assignee: MEDTRONIC VASCULAR, INC.Inventors: Don Tran, Martha Barajas-Torres, James Mitchell, Leonel Mendoza, Siyan Som, Jill Mendelson, David Grossman

Patent number: 11963872Abstract: Delivery devices for a stented prosthetic heart valve. The delivery device includes a spindle, at least one cord, and a covering feature associated with the spindle for selectively covering at least a portion of a stented prosthetic heart valve tethered to the spindle in a delivery state. In some embodiments, the covering feature includes a tip mounted to the spindle. The tip can include an overhang region for selectively covering a portion of the stented prosthetic heart valve. In other embodiments, the tip can include a tip body and a compressible foam bumper. In yet other embodiments, the covering feature includes an outer sheath arranged to selectively cover the stented prosthetic heart valve. The outer sheath can be elastic and stretchable for recapturing a partially expanded prosthesis, for example by including one or more windows covered by a stretchable covering layer.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2020Date of Patent: April 23, 2024Assignee: MEDTRONIC VASCULAR, INC.Inventors: Brendan Vaughan, Maeve Britton, Martha Barajas-Torres, Susheel Deshmukh, Leonel Mendoza, Siyan Som, Michele Silver, Don Tran, Nathan Brown, Jill Mendelson

Publication number: 20240016605Abstract: Numerous delivery devices for delivery of a stented prosthesis, such as a stented prosthetic heart valve. Various delivery devices include a capsule that is advanced proximally to retain the stented prosthesis, which is secured over an inner shaft assembly of the delivery device. The delivery device further includes a bumper or bumper assembly to provide a smooth transition of the capsule over the stented prosthesis. In some alternate disclosed embodiments, the bumper further serves to connect various elements of the inner shaft assembly. Additional embodiments include a bumper assembly arranged and configured to longitudinally expand and contract to substantially fill any open space as the capsule is retracted from the stented prosthesis, which prevents kinking in the capsule. Additional embodiments include proximal and/or distal bumpers for temporarily covering and smoothing the ends of the stented prosthesis as part of a delivery device that does not include a capsule.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2023Publication date: January 18, 2024Inventors: Don Tran, Martha Barajas-Torres, Marian Lally, Michael Gloss, Timothy Groen, Leonel Mendoza, Siyan Som, Michele Silver, Nathan Brown, Jill Mendelson

Patent number: 8771344Abstract: A device for percutaneously repairing a heart valve of a patient including a self-expanding, stented prosthetic heart valve and a delivery system. The delivery system includes delivery sheath slidably receiving an inner shaft forming a coupling structure. A capsule of the delivery sheath includes a distal segment and a proximal segment. An outer diameter of the distal segment is greater than that of the proximal segment. An area moment of inertia of the distal segment can be greater than an area moment of inertia of the proximal segment. Regardless, an axial length of the distal segment is less than the axial length of the prosthesis. In a loaded state, the prosthesis engages the coupling structure and is compressively retained within the capsule. The capsule is unlikely to kink when traversing the patient's vasculature, such as when tracking around the aortic arch, promoting recapturing of the prosthesis.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2013Date of Patent: July 8, 2014Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.Inventors: Don Tran, Nathan Wiemeyer, Susheel Deshmukh, Leonel Mendoza, Matthew Rust

Patent number: 6689571Abstract: A method and test kit for an agglutination assay for antibodies in human or other mammal serum is described. The kit preferably contains latex particles and uses extracellular antigen(s) of Pythiosis insidiosum which bind to the particles and which in turn bind to the serum antibodies to produce the agglutination. The assay is particularly important for detecting early stages of Pythiosis.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2002Date of Patent: February 10, 2004Assignee: Board of Trustees of Michigan State UniversityInventor: Alberto Leonel Mendoza
