Publication number: 20090250974Abstract: A window assembly includes a frame and a pane having a first portion fixed within the frame and a second portion. The second portion is movable relative to the first portion and the frame from a closed position to an open position. A seal is positioned between the frame and the pane. An operator is secured to the frame and the second portion, and moves the second portion between the closed and open positions.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 2, 2008Publication date: October 8, 2009Inventors: CHRISTOPHER M. ALBERT, LEROY C. SCHMUCK, ERIC V. WONG

Patent number: 7568316Abstract: Installation structure for installing and removing a sacrificial glazing panel. There is disclosed a removable retaining member for the sacrificial glazing panel that laterally pressures a primary glazing panel to seal and hold the primary glazing panel and holds the sacrificial glazing panel without lateral pressure. A unitary, dual-durometer retaining member is disclosed which is optimized for holding the primary glazing and the sacrificial glazing panel in different manners by having materials of two different hardnesses. Additionally, a retaining member is disclosed that has flocking material to reduce rattling of the sacrificial glazing panel.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2005Date of Patent: August 4, 2009Assignee: Dura Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David A. Choby, Michael D. Kobrehel, Daryl F. Dankert, Leroy C. Schmuck, Todd E. Cripe, Harley Rensch, Kip B. Ellis

Patent number: 6941700Abstract: An awning-type insulated glazing assembly includes an insulated glazing having a first glazing pane and a second glazing pane mounted parallel to and spaced from the first glazing pane. The first glazing pane has a marginal portion extending beyond the second glazing pane in at least a first direction in a plane of the first glazing pane. A mounting hinge defines a hinge axis and is secured to the insulated glazing for hingedly mounting the insulated glazing for awning-type movement about the hinge axis. A window regulator is secured to the insulated glazing for controlling the awning-type movement of the insulated glazing about the hinge axis.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2004Date of Patent: September 13, 2005Assignee: Dura Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Michael D. Kobrehel, Todd E. Cripe, Darren M. Grumm, Natvar H. Soni, Daryl F. Dankert, LeRoy C. Schmuck

Publication number: 20040128924Abstract: An installation structure and method for installing and removing a sacrificial glazing panel in a frame having a perimeter channel in which a deeper channel section is formed in the frame receiving an edge of the glazing panel to allow forcible shifting of the glazing panel so that an opposite edge clears the lip of an opposite channel section during installation and removal. A positioner element such as bowed leaf spring may be installed to reposition the glazing panel after the glazing panel is released so that the opposite edge is located to be retained by the lip after release.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2003Publication date: July 8, 2004Inventors: Michael D. Kobrehel, Daryl F. Dankert, Leroy C. Schmuck, Todd E. Cripe, Harley Rensch, Kip B. Ellis

Patent number: 5941022Abstract: A window assembly has a latch assembly of enhanced strength. The latch assembly is mounted to the frame of the window assembly. A latch member is biased by a torsion spring towards a non-latching position, a latch-lock member is biased by a second torsion spring towards a non-locking position. The latch member engages a striker pin mounted to a base wall to secure the window in its normal, closed position. The latch-lock, latch member and striker pin are held together by the torsion springs and a series of detents on the latch-lock member and the latch member. A release bar is hingedly mounted to the latch assembly and moveable from a normal, closed, non-releasing position to an open, releasing position. Operation of the release bar forces a connecting means to actuate a trip lever, which in turn forces a latch-lock to rotate, sequentially disengaging the latch-lock detents from the latch member detents, thereby disengaging the latch member detent from the striker pin, allowing the window to open.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1997Date of Patent: August 24, 1999Assignee: Excel Industries, Inc.Inventor: Leroy C. Schmuck

Patent number: 4889175Abstract: A vehicle window assembly which includes first and second separate window glazing panels. The first window is fixed while the second may be pivoted between open and closed positions by a hand crank connected to a peripheral linkage system by a shaft, with the linkage connected to the second window. The hand crank is located at the center of the shaft and the shaft includes stop means for preventing overturning of the hand crank past the full open position of the window.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1988Date of Patent: December 26, 1989Assignee: Excel Industries, Inc.Inventors: Robert A. Frey, Gail E. Woods, Leroy C. Schmuck
