  • Patent number: 4688785
Abstract: An embossing module for an automatic embossing machine utilizes a pair of opposed embossing element carrying wheels driven by oscillating bail arms which directly engage the embossing punch and die elements. An electromechanical interrupter mechanically decouples motion of the bail arm from the embossing elements in the event of a failure. The printwheels are driven by separate motors utilizing separate position encoders and common servo command circuits.

  • Patent number: 4555610
Abstract: A laser machining system with x, y and z-axis beam manipulating mechanisms to perform welding, cutting and localized heat treating operations on a workpiece with the operation of the system for each operation and the changeover between operations being under the control of an automatic control system. A computer numerical control (CNC) system provides control of the laser functions and movement of the laser beam using a sampled-data following error servo system.

  • Patent number: 4467335
Abstract: A system for forming an image on the outer surface of a plastic card and for correlating image data with corresponding alphanumeric data, comprises a data acquisition subsystem, an embosser/encoder, an exposure station for scanning an electrophotographic medium in accordance with digital image data generated by the data acquisition system, and a toning station for toning the electrophotographic medium to produce a toner image. The embosser/encoder forms identifying information corresponding to the alphanumeric data on the card and provides the embossed/encoded card to an image transfer station. At the image transfer station, the toner image on the electrophotographic medium is transferred to a portion of the card through heat and pressure. A protective layer is placed over the fused toner image.

  • Patent number: 4384196
Abstract: A system for attaching data cards to mailer forms including apparatus having a supply of serially connected mailer forms, a paper drive for the forms and a printer therefore, a card holding station for holding up to two data cards in position for pickup by a printed mailer form having divergent slots for receiving opposite end portions of the data cards, a burster for separating an individual card carrying printed mailer form from the serially connected forms, a folder, an output stacker and a form reject area. Electronic control circuitry is included for controlling the operation of the various stations in a cooperative manner and for assuring that the mailer forms are printed with information corresponding to the data cards which will be inserted therein.

  • Patent number: 4378733
Abstract: An automatic embossing system, having punch and die wheels respectively carrying axially aligned associated punches and dies disposed about their perimeters, is provided with an improved drive mechanism for actuation of a desired punch and die pair to emboss a card disposed therebetween. The drive mechanism includes a pair of bail arms driven in continuous oscillation by a uniquely shaped cam, each bail arm carrying an adjustably mounted solenoid actuated interposer. By firing the solenoid, the interposers are disposed between driving surfaces of the respectively associated bail arms so as to engage the driving ends of the punch and die pair. The interposer structures are independently adjustable, thereby permitting ease of adjustment of the height of embossed characters formed in the card.
