  • Publication number: 20150230993
Abstract: Absorbent members, especially bulked absorbent members, and methods of making the same are disclosed. The absorbent member may be in the form of a unitary absorbent fibrous layer comprising at least some cellulose fibers. The unitary absorbent fibrous layer is at least partially stratified through its thickness. The absorbent member may also have a plurality of discrete deformations, such as depressions and/or apertures in its surfaces. The method involves subjecting a precursor web to at least one cycle (or pass) through a mechanical deformation process. The mechanical deformation process utilizes a first forming member and a second forming member that form a nip therebetween through which the precursor web is passed. The first and second forming members are moving at different speeds relative to each other when they come together to form the nip.

  • Publication number: 20120282436
Abstract: Apparatuses and processes for aperturing and stretching a web are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method involves feeding a web into a nip that is formed between at least one pair of intermeshing rolls. The first roll is a raised ridge rotary knife aperturing roll and the second roll is a ring roll; both rolls comprise ridges and grooves. The first roll comprises a plurality of spaced-apart teeth extending outwardly from the top surface of the ridges, said teeth having tips, wherein the top surface of said ridges are disposed between the tips of said teeth and the bottom surface of said grooves. These apparatuses and processes enable a web to be formed which comprises apertures having greater open area than previously achievable with traditional processes and apparatuses.

  • Publication number: 20120276331
Abstract: Corrugated and apertured web materials are disclosed. More specifically, the webs comprise alternating ridges and grooves, wherein apertures are located in the grooves. In one embodiment, a web comprises alternating ridges and grooves as well as alternating regions of lower basis weight and higher basis weight. The higher basis weight regions are located in the ridges and grooves and the lower basis weight regions are located in the sidewalls between the ridges and grooves. The higher basis weight regions located in the grooves comprise apertures. The apertures have greater open area than previous apertures in similar webs.

  • Publication number: 20060243645
Abstract: A system and process for separating high and low density materials by air flow. Mixed solid material is delivered into an entrance of a cascade separation chamber where it is allowed to free fall and tumble over inclined surfaces. A fan forces air through a “closed” path that includes a duct from the fan outlet to return air to the separation chamber, and a branch duct that supplies an air knife disperser arranged to direct a high velocity air jet against free falling material in the chamber. The fan draws air that has entrained relatively light materials in the chamber, and thereby separates the same from the heavy materials, from the chamber through a duct connected to the inlet of an air cleaning device such as a cyclone separator. Cleaned air exhausted from the cyclone cleaning device and driven by the fan is continuously returned to the separation chamber. Air flow through the chamber is generally in counter-flow relation to the movement of heavy material through the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6027039
Abstract: A hinge assembly for use on a spray boom attached to a sprayer apparatus. This hinge assembly allows the inner and outer boom members to pivot in both the horizontal and vertical planes. The hinge assembly has three primary components the first of which is the boom knuckling hinge. The boom knuckling hinge is the component which allows the outer boom assembly to pivot in the vertical plane. The second component of the hinge assembly is the breakaway portion. This component allows the outer boom to flex in the horizontal plane and in a rearward manner when an obstacle or the ground is inadvertently struck by the outer boom during normal operation. The third and last component of the hinge assembly is the boom folding apparatus. The folding apparatus is used to fold the outer boom against the inner boom for transport and storage purposes. This is accomplished by the use of two hydraulic cylinders, one on each the inner and outer booms, that are attached to the boom hinge.

  • Patent number: 4043889
Abstract: A method of an apparatus for controlling the deposition of a thin film upon a substrate by a radio frequency (RF) sputtering apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus utilizes the predetermined bias voltage vs. vacuum pressure characteristic of the RF sputtering apparatus to control, by a single pressure controller, both the vacuum pressure and the bias voltage. A substrate tuning bias circuit generates an effective DC bias voltage that is determined by the RF impedance of the substrate holder to ground. Through a voltage level shifting circuit, a detected change in the DC bias voltage, e.g., a decrease, causes the pressure controller to adjust, e.g., increase, the vacuum pressure. The change in the vacuum pressure then produces a corresponding adjustment, e.g., an increase, of the bias voltage to stabilize the bias voltage back at a predetermined level.
