Abstract: Apparatus for separating logs singularly or in a single layer to down- stream processing equipment such as a debarker. The apparatus includes an oscillating drum segment which has a log pocket thereon. The log pocket is initially located adjacent the log bundle and as oscillation of the apparatus begins, the notch collects a log and transports it to a second position wherein the gravity discharge of the log to a point downstream occurs. The drum segment is then rotated in the opposite direction to its initial position and the procedure repeated. Bars are provided which fit within guide pockets in the drum. Bars fit within guide pockets in the drum. The upper surface of the bars act as a receiving ramp for the log as it is discharged from the drum. In the preferred embodiment, the drum segment can be adjusted radially thereby varying the capacity of the log pocket.

Abstract: A rotary drum log sorter for sorting logs received from a log feeder adjacent to the log sorter. A circular rotating drum is mounted to a frame and has a set of circumferential pockets for receiving logs from the log feeder as the pocket rotates to a position adjacent to the log feeder. Gates are provided which are mounted to the frame and adjacent to the rotating drum. The gates can be in a closed position so that a log in a pocket of the drum is prevented from leaving the packet as the pocket rotates past the closed gate. The gates also can be in an open position which will allow a log to drop from the pocket. An operator using conventional controls linked to the gates can selectively permit a log to drop from a pocket into a given collection bin.

Abstract: A reversible log singulating apparatus utilizing a movable infeed ramp and a rotating drum. The infeed ramp is pivotable into a downwardly pitched position for singulating logs when the apparatus is operating in a forward direction. The infeed ramp is pivotable into an upwardly pitched position to receive logs from the drum when the apparatus is operating in the reverse direction. The drum has unique flights adapted to singulate logs in a forward direction and to convey logs in the reverse direction.
