Patent number: 11613900Abstract: A customizable facility for manufacturing at least one product has at least one modular unit in communication with at least one central unit configured to provide utilities to the at least one modular unit. In some embodiments, the central unit(s) and modular unit(s) are positioned at least partially within a shell. Each modular unit can be a fermentation unit, a pre-viral unit, a post-viral unit, a utility space, a warehouse, a media buffer facility, an office, a personnel unit, or another unit. The modular units can be arranged to maximize a number of modular units within the shell while minimizing a footprint of the shell. A method of assembling a facility for manufacturing at least one product includes providing at least one central unit and providing at least one modular unit in communication with the central unit(s) such that utilities are provided by the central unit(s) to the modular unit(s).Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2021Date of Patent: March 28, 2023Assignee: LONZA LTDInventors: Jonathan Fortin, Lesley Wood, Stefan Widmer, Sandra Carbonneau, Alexander Zahiri

Publication number: 20070154600Abstract: The method involves purging of the oxygen content from within the interior of a flexible-walled container by flushing it with an inert gas such as nitrogen. Ideally, the residual oxygen content should be less that 2%, or most preferably, less than 1%. The flushing step may be implemented before, during or after introduction of the foodstuff dependant upon whether the foodstuff is in solid or liquid form, or a mixture of both. After introducing the foodstuff and before sealing, the container is inflated with nitrogen gas and may optionally be subsequently squeezed to remove a selected volume of nitrogen gas. Where discrete pieces of a foodstuff have a tendency to agglomerate during packaging, transport and storage, a higher volume of nitrogen is retained within the container after sealing to counter this effect and ensure that the product is more appealing to the consumer.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 16, 2005Publication date: July 5, 2007Inventors: Kenneth Parry, Lesley Wood, Shilen Thakrar

Patent number: 4943535Abstract: A continuous fermenter vessel such as an air-lift fermenter for receiving and cultivating a suspension culture of cells. The vessel contains a mechanism for agitating the suspension culture received in the vessel and causing a gross flow movement of the suspension culture. The vessel includes an inlet for continuously supplying culture medium to the vessel and an outlet for removing the culture supernatant. A filter material is disposed inside the vessel so that the gross flow movement of the suspension culture substantially prevents clogging of the filter material by cells and/or cell debris.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1987Date of Patent: July 24, 1990Assignee: Celltech LimitedInventors: Philip W.
