  • Patent number: 10485428
Abstract: A thermometer includes a temperature sensor, a computation circuit, and a wireless communications circuit. The computation circuit includes a memory and a processor, with the memory storing program code to perform the various functions of the thermometer, including computing a temperature of the patient based upon the one or more readings, and to store this temperature in the memory. The processor may also store the time at which the readings were obtained and associate it with the stored temperature. The wireless communications circuit and the computation circuit are used to establish a wireless communications link with an external device to provide temperature values stored in the memory to the external device. The associated time of the stored temperature may also be communicated to the external device. The external device can be used to view the temperature readings and to configure the thermometer.

  • Patent number: 7448799
Abstract: A thermometer for measuring body temperature in two different regions of a patient's body is provided. The thermometer includes a body and a probe fastened to the body. The probe has a tip portion disposed away from the body, and a temperature sensor is disposed on the tip of the probe. A supporting arm is pivotably attached to the body so that it can pivot between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, the arm nests with the body so that the probe may be used to measure oral or rectal temperature. In the open position, the arm is positioned away from the body to provide a retaining surface for positioning the probe to measure axillary temperature.

  • Patent number: 6553882
Abstract: A housing having an integral receptacle which is particularly useful for pencil sharpeners. The receptacle is attached to the body so as to be pivotable between a closed position, for closing a cavity of the housing, and an open position, for exposing the cavity. This is useful, for example, for emptying pencil shavings in a pencil sharpener. Attachment of the receptacle to the housing minimizes accidental opening of the receptacle and spillage of shavings. In the open position, the receptacle also serves as a spout for controlled disposal of shavings. In the preferred embodiment, the housing and receptacle have a mating rib and groove on opposing sides of the cavity which interfit when the receptacle is in the closed position to form a seal trap shavings within the cavity. Additionally, the receptacle is provided with a lower surface and rearward edge positioned to form a seal with the housing when the cover is in the closed and open positions, respectively.
