  • Patent number: 5683789
Abstract: A bonded assembly which includes a heating element in thermal contact with the adhesive component of the bonded assembly, such that the heating element can serve to thermally degrade the adhesive so as to allow disassembly, repair and servicing of the bonded assembly. The invention is particular suited for use in an abradable shroud assembly used in the fan section of a turbomachine, such as a high bypass turbofan engine. The abradable shroud assembly includes an abradable material bonded to the fan casing with an adhesive material having a known thermal degradation temperature. Placed in thermal contact with the adhesive layer is a heating element, such that the heating element is capable of heating the adhesive to a temperature above its thermal degradation temperature.

  • Patent number: 5344280
Abstract: A composite article includes a plurality of laminates each having structural fibers bonded in a matrix, and an adhesive film disposed between and bonding together adjacent ones of the laminates. In an exemplary embodiment, the laminates and the interleaved adhesive films form a facesheet which is joined to a core for forming an impact resistant fan case impact liner for a gas turbine engine. The impact liner may be integrated with a sound suppression liner.

  • Patent number: 5275529
Abstract: A fastener extends through a bushing in a panel for joining the panel to a stationary frame. The bushing includes a tubular plug extending through the panel which includes a head, a shank, and a distal end. The bushing also includes a tubular sleeve extending into the panel and disposed around the plug shank, with an integral collar being fixedly bonded to a back surface of the panel. The panel is fixedly trapped between the collar and the plug head, and the plug distal end abuts the frame for predeterminedly spacing the collar from the frame.
