  • Patent number: 10501970
Abstract: A motor vehicle is disclosed having a door that is attached to the motor vehicle by a hinge mechanism providing both full swing opening of the door and full scissor opening of the door. The motor vehicle includes an apparatus to assist with the selection of a preferred mode of door opening based upon an assessment of the surroundings in which the motor vehicle 1 rests. The assessment of the surroundings and selection of the preferred mode of door opening is carried out by an electronic controller based upon information received from a sensing apparatus.

Date of Patent: December 10, 2019
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Vince Leslie Shaw, Torsten Gerhardt, Robert Spahl, David Burrage
  • Patent number: 10249196
Abstract: A flow corridor detection system for use on a vehicle is provided. The system includes one or more sensors configured to measure available space in front of the vehicle; a data module include vehicle trajectory data that predicts trajectories of other vehicles, a memory defining vehicle dimension data, a dynamic memory having driver behavior and skill data, a processor configured to combine sensor measurements with data from the data module, memory and dynamic memory in order to detect a corridor through which the vehicle can proceed, and to quantify the risk level associated with the corridor. A display is configured to represent the location and risk level of the corridor to the driver of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20080060387
Abstract: A photonic band gap fiber and method of making thereof is provided. The fiber is made of a non-silica-based glass and has a longitudinal central opening, a microstructured region having a plurality of longitudinal surrounding openings, and a jacket. The air fill fraction of the microstructured region is at least about 40%. The fiber may be made by drawing a preform into a fiber, while applying gas pressure to the microstructured region. The air fill fraction of the microstructured region is changed during the drawing.
