Publication number: 20180179388Abstract: Methods of extracting anthocyanins from corn kernels are disclosed. In embodiments, the methods may include fractionating the corn kernels into their constituent component parts. After fractionating, the pericarp fiber may be separated from the constituent component parts of the corn kernels. The pericarp fiber may be steeped in an aqueous solution to extract anthocyanins from the pericarp fiber. After steeping, the aqueous solution may contain greater than about 40% by weight of total extractable anthocyanins present in the corn kernels prior to fractionating.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2016Publication date: June 28, 2018Applicants: KRAFT FOODS GROUP BRANDS LLC, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOISInventors: Qian Li, Elvira Gonzalez de Mejia, Vijay Singh, Pavel Somavat, Megan West, Leslie West, Pat Donahue

Patent number: 8444399Abstract: A pump system for conveying a first fluid using a second fluid. The system includes at least a first pump having at least a first rigid outer casing defining a first interior space and a first flexible tube structure accommodated in the first interior space. The interior of the first flexible tube structure is arranged for receiving one of the first or second fluids. The region of the first interior space surrounding the first flexible tube structure is arranged for receiving the other of the first and second fluids. The first flexible tube structure is movable between laterally expanded and collapsed conditions for varying the volume of the interior of the first flexible tube structure, thereby imparting sequential discharge and intake strokes on the first fluid.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2008Date of Patent: May 21, 2013Assignee: Weir Minerals Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Robert Leslie West, Gordon Leith Morriss

Patent number: 8336445Abstract: Disclosed is a pumping system comprising a pump having a rigid outer casing defining an interior space and a tube structure in the interior space, the tube structure being flexible and substantially inelastic. The interior of the tube structure defines a pumping chamber for receiving pumped fluid. The tube structure is movable between laterally expanded and collapsed conditions thereby providing discharge and intake strokes. The pumping chamber receives pumped fluid to cause the tube structure to move towards the expanded condition and undergo an intake stroke. The pumping chamber—undergoes a discharge stroke upon collapsing of the tube structure. The pumping system also comprises a delivery means and a supplying means for delivering pumped fluid to the pumping chamber and for supplying actuating fluid to an actuating region around the tube structure in timed sequence to cause the tube structure to undergo discharge and intake strokes.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2010Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Weir Minerals Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Gordon Leith Morriss, Robert Leslie West

Patent number: 7707925Abstract: A pumping system comprising a pump (21) for conveying a pumped fluid using an actuating fluid. The pump comprising a rigid outer casing (25) defining an interior space (26), a tube structure (27) accommodated in the interior space (26), the tube structure (27) being flexible and substantially inelastic. The interior of the tube structure (27) defines a pumping chamber (28) for receiving pumped fluid. The tube structure (27) is movable between laterally expanded and collapsed conditions for varying the volume of the pumping chamber (28) thereby to provide discharge and intake strokes. The region of the interior space (26) surrounding the tube structure (27) defines an actuating region for receiving and accommodating actuating fluid. The pumping chamber (28) is adapted to receive pumped fluid to cause the tube structure (27) to move towards the expanded condition and the pumping chamber (28) thereby undergoing an intake stroke.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2003Date of Patent: May 4, 2010Assignee: Weir Minerals Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Gordon Leith Morriss, Robert Leslie West

Publication number: 20070031581Abstract: The present invention is directed to chemoprotectant precursor compositions provided from crucifer seeds and sprouts and methods for their preparation. Treatment of aqueous extracts from crucifer seeds or sprouts with adsorbents substantially increases the ratio of certain highly chemoprotectant precursor compounds (alkyl glucosinolates such as glucoraphanin, a.k.a. sulforaphane glucosinolate) to undesirable compounds such as indole glucosinolates (for example 4-hydroxyglucobrassicin). The method provides an extract which has a ratio of glucoraphanin to 4-hydroxyglucobrassicin of about 70 or greater. The resulting extract has improved color and odor and may be dried or used directly as an additive in a variety of foodstuffs.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2005Publication date: February 8, 2007Inventors: Leslie West, George Haas, Nathan Matusheski
