Abstract: A coin testing apparatus for discriminating between acceptable and unacceptable coins has a ramp down which coins are constrained to roll. A first optical device is positioned in predetermined spaced relationship with the ramp to detect a first parameter of a coin rolling down the ramp to produce a first signal of predetermined timed duration for a coin having the proper first parameter. A second optical device is spaced in predetermined relationship with the first optical device to detect a second parameter of the coin and produce an output signal for a coin having the proper first and second parameters. The output signal energizes a device for detaining coins having an improper third parameter until expiration of the timed duration of the first signal, and a reject mechanism is operatively connected to reject any coins having an improper parameter.

Abstract: A coin testing device for discriminating between acceptable coins and unacceptable coins and slugs, includes an infeed chute along which coins are fed, and a plurality of light emitting and associated light sensitive devices associated with the chute for sensing various parameters, including the diameter, thickness and surface and edge configurations of coins, slugs and the like passing along the chute, and connected to control a coin deflector device for accepting acceptable coins and rejecting unacceptable coins, slugs and the like.

Abstract: A solid state, coin activated mechanism comprises a rejector for improper coins or slugs and the like, and the rejector includes a coin infeed chute with a LED or the like and a light sensitive device positioned at one side of the chute pointing angularly toward one another and toward the path of advancement of a coin in the chute, such that a bona fide coin with an irregular surface will intercept the light from the LED and the like and reflect the light to the light sensitive device, which in turn energizes a gate mechanism associated with the chute to pass a bona fide coin and to reject coins or slugs and the like which do not have the proper reflectivity and irregular surface. In one form of the invention, the chute includes a side wall inclined to the vertical and an inclined track along a bottom edge thereof along which coins roll when fed to the rejector.
