  • Patent number: 4471083
Abstract: A coating composition that contains as the film-forming binder an acrylic vinyl oxazoline polymer, an alkyd resin and an additive of a polyisocyanate of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.7 is a hydrocarbon group having six carbon atoms; ultraviolet light stabilizers, an organic solvent and optionally a plasticizer; this composition cures rapidly at ambient temperatures to a tough, durable, weatherable, scratch resistant and gasoline resistant finish particularly useful for repairing finishes of automobiles or trucks.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 19, 1983
Date of Patent: September 11, 1984
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Brenda N. Gelinas, Lester I. Miller
  • Patent number: 4442256
Abstract: An additive for alkyd resin coating compositions which is a blend of an isocyanate isocyanurate, dibutyltindilaurate and an organic solvent. Coating compositions containing this additive are used for coating automobiles and trucks and have good initial gloss and hardness and good gloss retention on weathering.

  • Patent number: 4288351
Abstract: A water reducible coating composition that by the addition of a solution of water and an amine or ammonia forms a sprayable nonair polluting coating composition that can be dried at ambient temperatures and is useful for coating metal or plastic substrates and in particular for finishing or repairing automobiles and trucks; the coating composition contains a water soluble organic solvent, a binder and pigments. The binder is of(1) an alkyd resin that is preferably the esterification product of soya oil fatty acids, trimellitic anhydride isophthalic acid and trimethylol propane;(2) an alkylated melamine formaldehyde resin,(3) an acrylic dispersing resin and(4) an organo metallic drier.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 27, 1980
