  • Patent number: 4559011
Abstract: The cooling arrangement comprises spaced apart cooling tubes arranged in a frame and interconnected with metallic tie plates. For decreasing thermal stresses without loss of strength throughout the structure, each tie plate is tangentially welded with its edge portions to the adjacent cooling tubes on both the shell and the furnace sides thereof. Each tie plate may be tangentially welded to one adjacent cooling tube and to the other it may be welded on the portion of its surface defined by an arc between tangents to this arc from the location where the tie plate is tangentially welded. The cooling tubes and the tie plates may be provided with fins and, the tie plates and the fins and as well as the walls of the frame have expansion clearances or slots. The frame is filled with a refractory material serving to protect the whole cooling arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4186798
Abstract: The tubular cooled members have straight pipes, each accommodating an insert aligned axially therewith and having a cross-section diminishing in the direction of the coolant flow in the pipe interior. These straight pipes are coupled in pairs by a bent connecting pipe fitted with an insert abutting against those enclosed in said straight pipes. The abutted pipes have the same diameters but the junctions between said pipes are displaced relative to those between the inserts, the inserts also having the same diameters at the abutted sections.

  • Patent number: 4154175
Abstract: A cooler for a shaft furnace comprises a metal plate for protecting the furnace walls from the heat effect arranged in the way of heat flow and a means for cooling said plate. The plate is made in the form of metal pipes filled with a coolant and sealed at the ends thereof. The coolant-filled ends of the pipes are rigidly fixed to the plate, and the coolant-free ends of said pipes are mounted within a cooling chamber with the coolant circulating therethrough. The cooling chamber is arranged exteriorly of the furnace wall. The coolant-free ends of the pipes are disposed slightly above those filled with the coolant. The plate is formed of two layers, namely, a high-heat-conducting layer and a low-heat-conducting one, the former facing the furnace working space and the latter being presented to the furnace wall. The interfacial plane of the layers is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the pipes. The present invention can be advantageously used for the protection of blast-furnace shells.

  • Patent number: 4132852
Abstract: A roof in which beams-headers rest on a roof ring and carry loop-shaped tubes suspended from and coupled with the said beams-headers which are running transversely to the framework tubes. Welded edgewisely to the top generatrices of the tubes are metal straps with bricks placed at least in one layer in rows therebetween. The brick end portions rest on the adjacent tubes, so that the brick in each row are disposed with a clearance sufficient to enable thermal expansion of the brick both vertically and horizontally when heated.
