Patent number: 11927067Abstract: A downhole device and a method of performing an operation in a borehole. The downhole device includes an outer sleeve defining a bore therethrough, an inner sleeve disposed within the bore and axially movable with respect to the outer sleeve between a first position and a second position, the inner sleeve defining a flow passage, and a seat member in the flow passage for seating a ball when the inner sleeve is at the first position. A ball is seated at the seat member. A fluid pressure on the ball moves the inner sleeve from the first position to the second position, moves the seat member radially outward out of the flow passage when the inner sleeve is at the second position, and pushes the ball out of the flow passage.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2021Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: BAKER HUGHES OILFIELD OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Jason Cullum, Levi Oberg, Andres Sosa, David Rabalais

Patent number: 11891869Abstract: A clutch mechanism of a downhole assembly and a method of operating the assembly in a borehole. The clutch mechanism includes a plug including a mandrel and a wall-engaging component, a sub of a ball valve, the sub coupled to the mandrel, a torque lock nut of the ball valve, the torque nut coupled to the wall-engaging component, and a clutch of the ball valve. The clutch is moved axially against the torque lock nut to engage the torque lock nut to the sub. A torque is applied on the clutch to rotate the sub of the ball valve via transmission of the torque from the clutch to the ball valve via the torque nut. Application of the torque against the sub actuates the ball valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2021Date of Patent: February 6, 2024Assignee: BAKER HUGHES OILFIELD OPERATIONSInventors: Andres Sosa, Jason Cullum, David Rabalais, Levi Oberg

Publication number: 20210040805Abstract: A setting tool for setting a device within a wellbore. The setting tool includes first and second chambers within a housing. A piston separates the chambers and is moveable within the second chamber. The piston is initially positioned adjacent a first end of the second chamber. The setting tool includes a first aperture in communication with the second chamber. Wellbore fluid may enter the second chamber through the first aperture. As the piston moves towards the second end of the second chamber, wellbore fluid within the second chamber is forced out of the second chamber through the first aperture. Pressure within the first chamber vents from the first chamber through the first aperture when the piston moves past the first aperture within the second chamber. The housing may include a second aperture adjacent to the second end of the second chamber that permits wellbore fluid to enter and exit.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2019Publication date: February 11, 2021Inventors: Stephen Finbar Kehoe, Levi Oberg
