  • Patent number: 11539619
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for forwarding L2 BUM traffic within an Ethernet Virtual Private Network (EVPN) by implementing a forwarding preference for local interfaces of a PE device for broadcast domains in the EVPN. For example, a method includes receiving, by a first provider edge (PE) device of a plurality of PE devices configured with an EVPN instance comprising one or more broadcast domains reachable by a plurality of Ethernet segments connecting the plurality of PE devices to a plurality of customer edge (CE) devices, first EVPN routes; and configuring, by the first PE device in response to determining the first EVPN routes indicate the first PE device has a local interface for each of the plurality of Ethernet segments, forwarding information of the first PE device to cause the first PE device to perform local-bias forwarding of layer 2 (L2) packets for the EVPN instance.

  • Patent number: 10382332
Abstract: Techniques are described for forwarding traffic within an Ethernet Virtual Private Network (EVPN) fabric of port-extenders by modeling a port-extender as a port-extender Ethernet segment. For example, a method includes receiving, by a provider edge (PE) device of a plurality of PE devices configured with an EVPN instance reachable by a port-extender Ethernet segment connecting the plurality of PE devices to a port-extender device, an EVPN route including information identifying an extended-port of the port-extender device associated with the port-extender Ethernet segment; storing, by the PE device, the information identifying the extended-port of the port-extender device associated with the port-extender Ethernet segment; and generating, by the PE device, a packet header of a data packet to be forwarded toward the extended-port of the port-extender device, the packet header including the information identifying the extended-port of the port-extender device.

  • Patent number: 10142239
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for handling withdrawals of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) join synch routes used to synchronize multicast group join requests. In one example, a first provider edge (PE) router of a plurality of PE routers on an Ethernet segment of an Ethernet Virtual Private Network (EVPN) receives, from a second PE router, a withdrawal of a BGP join synch route. In response, the first PE router determines whether a disruption event or a multicast state timeout event at the second PE router caused the withdrawal. If the disruption event caused the withdrawal, the first PE router retains a multicast state for the multicast group and forwards multicast traffic for the multicast group to a customer edge (CE) router multi-homed to the plurality of the PE routers. If the multicast state timeout event caused the withdrawal, the first PE router deletes the multicast state and stops forwarding the multicast traffic.
