  • Patent number: 5222874
Abstract: A combination of a variable reluctance motor and a screw compressor is provided with a fluid management system that directs a portion of the lubricant flow through the variable reluctance motor to cool its stator laminations and windings. Another portion of the lubricant flow is caused to pass directly from a heat exchanger to the screw compressor. The first portion of flow, which passes through the variable reluctance motor, is then directed into fluid communication with the inlet of the screw compressor to lubricate the screw compressor and provide cooling for the compressor. The portion of lubricant flow passing directly through the heat exchanger to the compressor also provides lubrication for the compressor and is used to further cool the moving parts of the screw compressor.

  • Patent number: 4594632
Abstract: The rotor of a brushless synchronous machine, such as an alternator exciter machine, includes a field winding and a rectifier for applying full wave rectified power to the field winding. To protect the rectifier from excessive inverse voltages when such voltages are induced in the field winding, for example during motor starting, alternator paralleling, etc., the present invention employs an excessive voltage sensor and a triggerable bypass circuit for bypassing such excessive inverse voltage from the rectifier when the sensor senses such excessive inverse voltage. The sensor preferably includes a solid state relay capable of assuming either of two output conditions, depending on the magnitude, and with a prescribed input circuit, the polarity, as well, of a voltage induced in the field winding.

  • Patent number: 4496897
Abstract: An electric generating device of the self-excited, self-regulated, brushless, synchronous type includes an alternator-exciter for producing an electrical output and an adjusting means for adjusting or setting the output voltage of the alternator-exciter substantially independently of the winding arrangement thereof to control the no-load or light load voltage of the electrical output. A deactivating device deactivates the adjusting control when maximum field current is demanded by a load.

  • Patent number: 3932069
Abstract: A motor pump wherein the motor is a variable reluctance motor having a rotor which functions as an impellor to provide pumping action as a result of centrifugal force acting upon a fluid supplied to the motor pump. The motor pump is extremely simple in that it has only one moving part, its rotor, which is formed of a plurality of ferromagnetic elements spaced from one another with flow passages located between the elements. Fluid enters the pump on the radially inner side of the ferromagnetic elements and flows radially through the flow passages to the pump discharge outlet.
