  • Patent number: 7755291
Abstract: An incandescent lamp that emits infrared light and a method of making the lamp includes a filament assembly inside a polycrystalline aluminum oxide (PCA) envelope, where the filament assembly preferably has a coiled tungsten filament, solid metal ends of tungsten or molybdenum attached to the coiled tungsten filament, and leads at distal ends of the solid metal ends. End caps are attached to ends of the envelope and have openings through which a respective one of the leads extends, where the leads are each made of an electrically conductive material having a coefficient of thermal expansion compatible with the end caps, such as niobium. The leads are attached to the end caps with glass-ceramic sealing frits. The end caps and sealing frits seal a suitable gas inside the envelope.

  • Patent number: 5252888
Abstract: A support base for a filament or a lamp capsule in a lamp includes a lamp base and a pair of leads extending from the base to the filament or lamp capsule. The base includes a layer of composite material that substantially surrounds the leads and supports them along parts of their lengths within the base. The composite material preferably includes glass beads covered by a layer of epoxy resin.

  • Patent number: 5212422
Abstract: A support for a filament or lamp capsule in a lamp having a base and a light-transmissive envelope includes a support ring that is inserted into the base. The ring can be pressed or otherwise secured into the base. The support ring includes at least one pair of tabs that extend radially inwardly. The tabs include mounting holes aligned generally in a direction extending upwardly from the base toward the envelope for receiving and supporting an electrical lead of the filament or lamp capsule. The tabs can be resilient to forcibly engage the lead of the filament or lamp capsule. Two pairs of tabs can be provided to support two leads of the filament or lamp capsule.

  • Patent number: 4189657
Abstract: A tungsten-halogen lamp capsule is disposed within a curved reflector, the lead-in support wires for the capsule protruding through the rear portion of the reflector. After a front lens is sealed to the reflector, the lamp is energized and the beam pattern is adjusted by moving the support wires relative to the reflector. When the desired pattern is obtained, the wires are secured to the reflector.

  • Patent number: 4166232
Abstract: In the manufacture of a capsule for a sealed beam lamp or vehicle headlight, two coiled filaments on lead-in wires are supported in a holder with sufficient rigidity to accurately maintain a predetermined spacing between the filaments during a subsequent press sealing operation. The filaments are then inserted into an open-ended glass tube and the open end is press sealed onto the filament lead-in wires at the same time that wire supports are embedded in the press seal. The wire supports are then connected to mounting rods in the finished capsule.

  • Patent number: 4140939
Abstract: A tungsten-halogen lamp for use in motor vehicle headlights comprises a tubular sealed glass capsule containing two coiled tungsten filaments, parallel to each other and disposed substantially orthogonally to the axis of the capsule. The two filaments are offset laterally from each other and one of the filaments is a coiled coil, in order to reduce the lateral traverse of both filaments.
