Abstract: A method for the treatment of memory impairment, especially Senile Dementia of the Alzheimer's Type, by administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of nicotine or an N-lower alkyl analog thereof by the transdermal route.

Abstract: A device for the transdermal administration of a drug for the treatment of memory impairment comprising:(a) a drug impermeable backing layer;(b) a drug permeable rate controlling membrane sealed to one side of said backing layer as to define at least one drug reservoir compartment therebetween;(c) an adhesive layer;(d) a drug or composition thereof within said hollow drug reservoir; said drug comprising a memory improving effective amount of a compound having the formula ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1, X.sub.2, X.sub.3, X.sub.4, independently represent --H or lower alkyl;said composition comprising said drug and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable adjunct; whereby said drug is delivered in a controlled, continuous manner to a patient to which said device has been applied.

Abstract: The absorption of orally administered substantially aqueous insoluble psychoactive 2-aryl-pyrazolo [4,3-C] quinolin-3-ones of the formula ##STR1## where R" is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy, halo or trifluoromethyl, and R' is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy, halo, trifluoromethyl, nitro, amino, mono- or di-lower alkylamino, mono- or di-lower alkylcarbamoylamino, mono- or di-lower alkylcarbamoyloxy or cyano, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, is enhanced by administering the same in the form of a storage stable solid molecular dispersion of polyvinylpyrrolidone.

Abstract: By incorporating solid drug substances into mixtures of higher alkanols and/or alkanoic acids melting above 25.degree. C, forming granules thereof and covering them with a prolamine, a pharmaceutical dosage form is obtained, which slowly and evenly releases the drug within the gastrointestinal tract of a mammal.
