  • Patent number: 8647264
Abstract: A medical diagnostic system includes an otoscope, which is configured to generate at least a first image (e.g., digital photograph) of a tympanic membrane of a patient, and an apparatus for diagnosing acute otitis media within the patient. The apparatus includes a computer-readable storage medium having computer-readable program code embodied in the medium. The computer-readable program code includes a first computer-readable program code that evaluates the at least a first image of the tympanic membrane of the patient relative to a database containing at least one image of a tympanic membrane of at least one archived patient, to thereby detect indicia of acute otitis media in the patient.

  • Publication number: 20060019009
Abstract: A method for making a low carbohydrate high protein puffed snack food product. Ingredients comprising soy isolate, soy concentrate, corn meal, and water are introduced into an extrudate. The ingredients are extruded through a die orifice at a high specific mechanical energy. The ingredient formula ranges have been determined that maximize volumetric expansion and the set operating conditions and keep texture, color, and flavor acceptable. The puffed snack is then dried and seasoned. There are minimal off-flavors in the product.

  • Publication number: 20050019466
Abstract: The present invention comprises an improved extruder die assembly and method for using same to impart a distinct colored and/or flavored pattern into an extrudable food mass during the extrusion process while improving the quality of dimensional design aspects of the resulting extruded, complexly shaped, direct expanded food products. The improved system includes an improved extruder die assembly comprising a converging nozzle section having axially aligned ridgelines which gradually project into the bore of the nozzle as the nozzle converges to gradually disrupt the axial flow of an extrudate at specific peripheral points thereby altering the extrudate's velocity profile. By gradually disrupting the axial flow the extrudate in close proximity to the projecting ridgelines in the converging nozzle prior to its extrusion, the dimensional quality of the resulting direct expanded food piece is greatly improved.

  • Patent number: 4808422
Abstract: A process for producing center-filled food products comprises forming a hollow cylindrical shell of edible material having a single continuous longitudinal slit. The shell is conditioned until it is able to maintain its hollow, cylindrical shape and longitudinal slit without external support, and may subsequently be dried to a shelf stable moisture content. The shell is then filled through the longitudinal slit with an edible food substance which is substantially stable at product storage temperatures. The shell may then be cut to final product size, externally coated with seasoning, and packaged.
