  • Publication number: 20090096121
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of producing low-density open-cell inorganic foam. The method includes the steps of providing a dry powder mixture containing at least inorganic particles, soluble space-filler particles, and solid organic binder; shaping the dry powder composition into a preform by pouring it in a mold having a given form; heating the preform to melt the organic binder; solidifying the organic binder to obtain a solid perform; removing at least the space-filler from the solid preform by dissolution in an appropriate solvent; heating and maintaining the material at a temperature sufficient to burn-out the remaining organic binder; and finally sintering the remaining inorganic material to obtain an open-cell inorganic foam.

  • Publication number: 20060165549
Abstract: A binder-lubricant for metallurgical powder compositions for powder metallurgy (P/M) applications having a melting point between 50 and 100° C. and comprising glyceryl esters of fatty acids. Addition of such binder-lubricant has improved resistance to dusting, and has improved green density for compacting temperature between 50 and 100° C.

  • Publication number: 20050254987
Abstract: A binder for metallurgical powder compositions for powder metallurgy (P/M) applications includes styrene/maleic anhydride copolymers and their derivatives. Addition of such binders has improved resistance to dusting, and has improved flow properties of the compositions, even in high relative humidity environments. The compositions can be compacted either at cold or warm temperatures. A mechanical strength of a sintered product containing the binder-treated mix is similar to that of sintered products without the binder.
