    Abstract: Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) suitable for equivalent use to USP enoxaparin sodium is prepared from a starting material isolated from engineered E. coli K5 capsular polysaccharide, e.g., E. coli K5 heparosan. The E. Coli CPS is treated with acids to remove 3-deoxy-D-manno oct-2-ulosonic acid (Kdo) residues, and further hydrolyzed via alkali treatment to form low molecular weight N-sulfo, N-acetyl heparosan (LMW-NSNAH) having molecular weight and N-acetylation comparable to enoxaparin. The LMW-NSNAH is converted to LMWH via a series of enzymatic modifications by C5-epimerase, 2-O-, 6-O-, and 3-O-sulfotransferases. Compositions including the LMWH are prepared without the use of porcine-derived heparin, and thus benefit from better source material availability, better control of manufacturing processes, reduced concerns about contamination, adulteration or animal virus, or impurities. Further, the LMWH product is demonstrated to be structurally and functionally comparable traditional pharmaceutical LMWHs.

    Abstract: A copper die-bonding material for third-generation semiconductor device packaging. The bond is made from an oxidation-resistant copper paste engineered to minimize oxidation and optimize copper sintering density. As a result, dense bonds with high shear strength are formed. The oxidation-resistant copper paste includes copper metal particles and copper nanoparticles, wherein the copper nanoparticles are specifically engineered to have bimodal size distribution. The present invention provides a one-pot composition, which is directly applicable to a metallic substrate to initiate an oxidation-free sintering process, while providing enhanced shear strength and bond strength.

    Abstract: A pressure distribution monitoring flexible planar mat system with a wide pressure measuring range. The flexible planar mat includes a first electrode layer and a first composite piezoelectric-dielectric layer with a second composite piezoelectric-dielectric layer facing the first layer and a second electrode layer. Each of the first and second composite piezoelectric-dielectric layers includes an elastomeric matrix with conductive and dielectric particles embedded therein. The relative size of the conductive particles and the dielectric particles creates a micro-rough interface between these layers and the electrode layers resulting in a range of contact areas, permitting detection between 0 and 3000 kPa. The flexible planar mat system further includes a data collector that collects a pressure signal from the mat. A pressure distribution data processor receives and calculates data from the data collector and creates a two-dimensional pressure map from the flexible planar mat.

    Abstract: A self-densifying interconnection is formed between a high-temperature semiconductor device selected from a GaN or SiC-based device and a substrate. The interconnection includes a matrix of micron-sized silver particles in an amount from approximately 10 to 60 weight percent; the micron-sized silver particles having a particle size ranging from approximately 0.1 microns to 15 microns. Bonding particles are used to chemically bind the matrix of micron-sized silver particles. The bonding particles are core silver nanoparticles with in-situ formed surface silver nanoparticles chemically bound to the surface of the core silver nanoparticles and, at the same time, chemically bound to the matrix of micron-sized silver particles. The bonding particles have a core particle size ranging from approximately 10 to approximately 100 nanometers while the in-situ formed surface silver nanoparticles have a particle size of approximately 3-9 nanometers.

    Abstract: A lithium-ion battery is provided, including a cathode with one or more nickel-rich ternary cathode materials, specifically LiNixMnyCozO2 or LiNixAlyCozO2, where x, y, and z sum to 1 and x is at least 0.8. The battery also includes an anode made from materials such as silicon, silicon oxide, carbon nanotubes, lithium metal, graphene, and graphite, and features a porous polymer separator with a porosity of 30% to 90%. An electrolyte is also included. A key aspect is the use of a gel-free binder, which is a modified polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) grafted with monomers containing at least one unsaturated carbon-carbon double bond and functional groups. This modification prevents defluorination and crosslinking of the PVDF when in contact with the nickel-rich cathode materials.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to waterborne coating formulations with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane for hard coating application. The coating composition includes a functionalized polymeric hard coating material, at least one co-polymerizable reactive diluent, a photo initiator or a thermal initiator, and one or more additives. The coating composition can be applied on polycarbonate (PC) film, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film and paper by conventional coating techniques. The waterborne hard coating features a pencil hardness of more than 4H on PC and PET. The coating developed by internal and external emulsification of POSS which is used as a protective topcoat for various substrates. The resulting coating with high transparency and excellent anti-scratch resistance.

    Abstract: A dual mode conductive hydrogel-based strain sensor is provided, which includes both ion conductive mechanism and electron conductive fillers. The hydrogel-based strain sensor includes a hydrogel layer with a first cross-linked hydrogel-forming polymer network and a second cross-linked hydrogel-forming polymer network. The second cross-linked hydrogel-forming polymer network interpenetrates into the first hydrogel-forming polymer network without cross-linking between the two networks. A water-based liquid is entrained by the first and second crosslinked hydrogel-forming polymer networks in an amount of approximately 50-75 wt % of the hydrogel. The water including an ionically-conducting salt in an amount of 5-25 wt % of the formed hydrogel. Conductive fillers include two or more of graphene, carbon nanotubes, and MXene. Stretchable conductive electrodes formed on the hydrogel layer and are selected from conductive particle-filled elastomers, stretchable metal meshes, and stretchable conductive fabrics.

The lithium metal negative electrode includes a lithium reactive metal layer, the lithium reactive metal layer being formed on a support conductive layer. A dendrite-suppressing coating is formed over the lithium reactive metal layer; the dendrite-suppressing coating is a displacement-reacted metal including silver reacted from decomposition of a silver salt and having an interface reaction product formed from a reaction between the silver salt and the lithium reactive metal layer. The interface reaction product is positioned between the displacement-reacted metal layer and the lithium reactive metal layer. The dendrite suppressing coating permits lithium metal ions to permeate the coating to react electrolytically in an overall battery reaction.
