An adaptive parameter unit is provided with signal representations of signals that are to be applied to the filter element. The adaptive parameter unit, responsive to measurement or other analysis of the signal indicia, selects the filter characteristics to be exhibited by the filter. And, the filter characteristics are caused to be selected responsive thereto. Dynamic selection and reselection of the filter characteristics is effectuated in which the response time of the filter is minimized during good signal conditions and increased, to permit increased filter operations, during weak signal conditions.

  • Patent number: 7403557
Abstract: Provided are improved systems and methods for spread spectrum communication employing hybrid Eb/No and pilot-based finger lock determination for RAKE receivers. Finger lock thresholds are periodically set using an extended time-averaged Eb/No traffic signal estimate for each finger mapped to an Ec/No pilot level, where the extended time-averaged Eb/No estimate is inversely proportional to the mapped Ec/No level, thus, decreasing the required Ec/No level when the Eb/No estimate increases and increasing the required Ec/No level when the Eb/No estimate decreases. Existing pilot-based finger lock algorithms may be used with the Ec/No threshold set using the extended time-averaged Eb/No estimate. When pilot signals are weak but traffic signals remain strong, fingers will remain locked to increase the combiner output signal-to-noise ratio.

  • Patent number: 7002670
Abstract: An improved optical sensor and method for measuring concentration of a chemical constituent where measurement interference from other chemical compounds is present in the solution is provided. More specifically, the invention relates to a system for measuring the amount of creatinine in effluent dialysate during, before, or following a kidney dialysis procedure and a method for using the same. Alternatively, the method may be used with blood and other body fluids or solutions that contact the patient. The system may use an enzyme or other chemical process to specifically remove or convert an analyte with an intrinsic optical absorbance. By measuring the absorbance before and after the chemical process the analyte can be measured with high accuracy and specificity. The method may be extended to multiple analyte measurements using cascaded chemical processes.
