Abstract: A system is provided to allow a computer to control one or more devices using the remote control codes that are normally used by remote control units associated with these devices. The system has one or more remote control units for transmitting commands, one or more devices to be controlled, and a computer. The computer is coupled to an input device, and has a memory, a receiver which receives codes from the remote control units, and a knowledge base for storing the codes received from the remote control units and command identifiers provided from the input device. The knowledge base associates each command identifier with a particular code. The computer also includes a transmitter which transmits codes to the device to be controlled based on selected command identifiers. During configuration, the computer executes a program that prompts the user to enter a command identifier and code to be associated with that command identifier.

Abstract: An apparatus for canceling noise in a PC environment includes a receiver positioned inside the computer case that inputs noise inside the computer case, a processor coupled to the receiver and having a waveform generation device that generates a cancellation waveform that is inverse to the waveform of the input noise, and a speaker coupled to the processor for broadcasting the cancellation waveform. A method for canceling noise in a PC environment includes inputting a noise, determining a cyclical waveform that is representative of the noise, generating a cancellation waveform that is the reverse of the cyclical waveform, and mixing the sound from the cancellation waveform with the noise.

Abstract: A test apparatus for testing function of a USB hub under the control of a USB host computer is provided. The USB host computer issues a USB command during the test. The test apparatus includes a USB bus, an emulation device, a standard bus and a micro-controller device. The USB bus is coupled to the USB hub. The emulation device emulates an USB device connected to the USB bus. The standard bus is connected to the USB host computer. The micro-controller device is connected to the standard bus and the emulation device respectively to process a USB transaction corresponding to the USB command. The invention provides a testing environment which is fully compliant to the WINDOWS 98 environment.
