    Abstract: Systems and methods of making a cast steel alloy crankshaft for an internal combustion engine are provided. The method comprises providing a mold of the crankshaft. The mold has cavities to form the crankshaft. The method further comprises melting a first metallic material at between 1400 degrees Celsius (° C.) and 1600° C. to define a molten metallic material. In addition, the method further comprises feeding the molten metallic material at a riser connection angle of between 30° and 75° in the cavities of the negative sand cast mold. The method further comprises cooling the molten metallic material at a solidification time of between 5 seconds (sec) and 20 sec in the negative sand cast mold with at least one chill member to define a solidified metallic material having dimensions of the cast steel alloy crankshaft. Furthermore, the method comprises separating the solidified metallic material from the negative sand cast mold to define the cast steel alloy crankshaft.

The supercritical compressed air energy storage system includes a supercritical liquefaction subsystem, an evaporation and expansion subsystem, a staged cryogenic storage subsystem, a heat storage and heat exchange subsystem, and a cryogenic energy compensation subsystem, the staged cryogenic storage subsystem being used for implementing the staged storage and release of cryogenic energy, improving efficiency of recovering cryogenic energy during energy release and energy storage, and thereby improving cycle efficiency of the system. The present disclosure does not need to provide any inputs of additional cryogenic energy and heat energy input externally, and has the advantages of high cycle efficiency, low cost, independent operation, environmental friendliness, and no limitation on terrain conditions, and it is suitable for large-scale commercial applications.

    Abstract: Integrated optical waveguides, direct-bonded waveguide interface joints, optical routing and interconnects are provided. An example optical interconnect joins first and second optical conduits. A first direct oxide bond at room temperature joins outer claddings of the two optical conduits and a second direct bond joins the inner light-transmitting cores of the two conduits at an annealing temperature. The two low-temperature bonds allow photonics to coexist in an integrated circuit or microelectronics package without conventional high-temperatures detrimental to microelectronics. Direct-bonded square, rectangular, polygonal, and noncircular optical interfaces provide better matching with rectangular waveguides and better performance. Direct oxide-bonding processes can be applied to create running waveguides, photonic wires, and optical routing in an integrated circuit package or in chip-to-chip optical communications without need for conventional optical couplers.
