  • Patent number: 9895725
Abstract: An assembly configured to clean one or more selected structures of a device may comprise an end effector assembly, a material disposed on a surface of the end effector assembly that, in operation of the device, faces the selected structure(s) of the device. The end effector assembly may be configured to selectively move the material towards and against the selected structure(s) such that the material remains on the facing surface of the end effector assembly and to retain, when the end effector assembly is moved away from the device, at least some particulates previously on the selected structure(s). The device may comprise a data storage assembly and the selected structures may comprise a spindle motor hub and a disk clamp to secure the clamp to the disk.

  • Patent number: 9275677
Abstract: A hard disk drive (HDD) top cover removal tool includes a nest assembly, a clamp, a guide plate, and a purge and vacuum assembly (PAVA). The nest assembly secures an HDD and rotates it from a first to a second position. The clamp presses against a top cover of the HDD such that the top cover maintains contact with a hard drive body of the HDD. A hole defined in the guide plate is aligned with a screw location of the top cover and the hard drive body, and receives a screw driver for removing a screw fastening the top cover to the hard drive body. The PAVA purges and evacuates particles from the screw location of the top cover and the hard drive body of the HDD in the second position. The clamp releases the top cover. The PAVA removes the released top cover from the hard drive body.

  • Patent number: 8840730
Abstract: A machine for cleaning a head-disk assembly (HDA) of a hard disk drive (HDD) includes a nest that seals the HDA between an upper and lower portion during cleaning. An inlet port receives a gas and an exhaust port exhausts the gas and entrained particles. A shock drive delivers mechanical shocks to the nest and the HDA while the gas is flowing through the HDA. A blower may circulate the gas from the exhaust port to the inlet port. A filter may be coupled to the inlet port. The HDA nest may be movable along an axis of the mechanical shocks delivered by the shock drive. A blow tube may deliver gas to a screw hole and a coaxial vacuum tube may rest against a surface around the screw hole to encapsulate the blow tube during cleaning and remove the gas and particles from the screw hole.

  • Patent number: 8356384
Abstract: A clean and purge tool (CAPT) is provided and includes a nest assembly that stows an open hard disk drive (HDD). The nest assembly is rotated from an upward facing position to a downward facing position to dislodge particles from a media clamp of the HDD. The CAPT also includes a cover hingedly attached to the nest assembly and encloses the HDD. The CAPT also includes a spindle clamp assembly (SCA) mounted on the cover and has a vacuum tube configured to encapsulate the media clamp. The SCA includes an air purge nozzle extending into the vacuum tube. The CAPT dislodges particles from the media clamp when pulses of compressed gas are applied to the media clamp by a compressed gas source via the air purge nozzle and evacuates the particles from the vacuum tube when a vacuum is applied to the vacuum tube by a vacuum source.

  • Patent number: 8245601
Abstract: A screwdriver sleeve finder comprises a sleeve, a fastener stop, purge channels, and ports. The sleeve is mountable on a screwdriver around a bit for driving a threaded fastener. The fastener stop is disposed within the sleeve between a forward bore and a rearward bore, and defines, between the rearward bore and the forward bore, an axial path for the bit to engage the threaded fastener and an evacuation path. The purge channels are defined within sidewalls of the sleeve, and the ports are disposed in the sidewalls of the sleeve to fluidly couple respective ones of the purge channels to the forward bore. The sleeve may be coupled to a compressed gas source for supplying compressed gas into the forward bore via the purge channels and ports, and to a vacuum source for evacuating particles within the forward bore via the evacuation path and the rearward bore.
