  • Patent number: 7221985
Abstract: An on-screen calibration system for disc drives and the operating method thereof. The calibration system includes an autocollimator detecting the inclined angle of the stage of a disc drive. A control module is connected to the on-screen display module and a bar code scanner to receive the bar code of the pick-up module and compute a predetermined position data. A monitor displays a moving point according to the inclined angle and a target point according to the predetermined position data through an on-screen display module. The tilt-adjusting mechanism supporting the pick-up module is adjusted to shift the moving point overlapping the target point.

  • Patent number: 7133341
Abstract: A system and method for adjusting optical drives. Rotating disc datum, and leader pin datum, must be adjusted to a specific position during a packaging process. An autocollimator according to the present invention senses tilt and sway of the rotating disc, outputting a first bright spot through a switch box to a monitor. In addition, an optimum tilt angle of the optical pickup head is obtained by a reader through calculation by a host, outputting a second bright spot through the switch box to the monitor. Therefore, the first bright is coincided with the second bright spot by a adjustment mechanism and according to picture switch by the switch box, reading optimum tilt angle adjustment. Furthermore, individual tilt angle of each optical pickup head is calculated by a host for satisfying adjustment of different tilt angles with different optical paths in reading CD and DVD discs.

  • Patent number: 7123573
Abstract: An automatic ball balancing system for an optical disk reading device has a rotor mechanism that has a concave annular track formed on the rotor, with at least one ball placed on the annular track to perform automatic balancing. A surface with a low friction coefficient is also provided on the annular track in the gravity direction of the balls to reduce the movement resistance between the ball(s) and the annular track. In the meantime, the stable rotation speed of the rotor and the system phase angle of the ball(s) when the rotor reaches a stable rotation speed are also changed. One way of effecting this change is to bond or coat a material with a low friction coefficient on the annular track in the gravity direction of the balls. In this way, the balancing effect of the automatic ball balancing system can be improved.

  • Patent number: 7028320
Abstract: A method for reducing the stable rotation speed of an automatic ball balancing system is used with an automatic ball balancing system that has a rotor that has an annular track, with at least one ball provided for rotation inside the track. First, an optimum rotation speed ws that is between the unstable critical rotation speed wc of a ball and a working rotation speed w is first determined. In the next step, the rotor is accelerated to the optimum rotation speed ws. Next, the acceleration of the rotor is reduced until the balls are stationary relative to the track, and then the rotor is accelerated to the working rotation speed w.

  • Patent number: 6493311
Abstract: An automatic balance device for disk includes rolling beads of different sizes and a magnetic piece within the turntable or clamping chassis of the CD-ROM driver. The rolling beads of different sizes will be released from the magnetic piece at different rotating speeds of the disk. Therefore, the rolling beads with larger weight are first released from the magnetic piece and then bumped by the rolling beads with smaller weight, which are released from the magnetic piece at a later time. The rolling beads with larger weight can be moved to a desired position to counteract the imbalance force of the disk.

  • Publication number: 20020114262
Abstract: An oscillation balance device comprises a rotary body, at least one track and a plurality of rollers. The tracks are around a center of a rotary shaft of the rotary body. The tracks are installed on the rotary body. The plurality of rollers are formed by a plurality of first roller and a plurality of second rollers which have different friction coefficients. The first rollers and second rollers are arranged, alternatively. The friction force connected the first roller and the second roller is farther smaller than that between two second rollers. As a result, the sensitivity of the rollers to the unbalance of the system is improved. Therefore, the oscillations and noises are reduced and the precision in operation and lifetime are increased.

  • Patent number: 6430144
Abstract: The present invention proposes a control method of the auto-balancing system of an optical disk drive. The present invention adds a procedure of constant rotation speed in the acceleration process of the spindle motor when the rotation speed is below a critical speed. When the rotation speed of the spindle motor is below the critical speed, the position of added mass will be situated at a position at the same side of the unbalance vector of the original optical disk. Thereby the balancing mass will remain at the position of worst balancing effect in the procedure of constant rotation speed. After the procedure of constant rotation speed, the spindle motor will be accelerated to pass the critical speed of the system by the largest torque.

  • Patent number: 6348747
Abstract: A method for controlling an auto-balancing system of an optic disk in an optic disk drive is proposed. As the rotary speed of a spindle motor is not faster than a critical speed, a dither signal of high frequency and micro amplitude is added to a command signal for speeding a maximum rotary speed for reducing friction force, and then the balancing mass successfully moves to a position with a reverse phase opposite to an unbalance vector of the optic disk. After the rotary speed of the spindle motor is higher than a critical speed, the dither signal and then speeding the spindle motor is removed and the motor is accelerated to a maximum rotary speed.
