  • Patent number: 8557933
Abstract: Alternate methods for preparing functionalized pyridyl-amine products from pyridinyl starting materials are provided herein. These alternately-prepared functionalized pyridyl-amines can be used as ligands or ligand precursors in catalytic compositions, e.g., in oligomerization reactions. Methods for such reactions are also provided herein.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 1, 2012
Date of Patent: October 15, 2013
    Assignee: ExxonMobil Chemical Patents Inc.
Inventors: John Robert Hagadorn, Timothy Marlow Boller, Steven Douglas Brown, Gary Michael Diamond, Keith Anthony Hall, James Martin Longmire, Lily Joy Ackerman, Susan Jessica Schofer, Eric Lee Kuiokalani Dias, Andrew Cottone, III, Carl Edgar Whittle
  • Patent number: 8404915
Abstract: This invention relates to a method to selectively oligomerize olefins comprising contacting olefins with: 1) at least one diaryl-substituted diphosphine ligand; 2) a chromium metal precursor; and 3) optionally, one or more activators. In a particular embodiment, the method for selectively oligomerizing olefins includes trimerizing ethylene to selectively form 1-hexene.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 24, 2007
Date of Patent: March 26, 2013
    Assignee: ExxonMobil Chemical Patents Inc.
Inventors: Laughlin G. McCullough, Francis Charles Rix, John F. Walzer, Lily Joy Ackerman, Keith Anthony Hall, Gary Michael Diamond, Victor Oswaldo Nava-Salgado

  • Patent number: 8212047
Abstract: Alternate methods for preparing functionalized pyridyl-amine products from pyridinyl starting materials are provided herein. In addition, these alternately-prepared functionalized pyridyl-amines can be used as ligands or ligand precursors in catalytic compositions, e.g. for use in alkene oligomerization reactions.

  • Patent number: 7528203
Abstract: Copolymers of an olefin or alpha-olefin and a cyclic olefin where the cyclic olefin comprises greater than 50 mole percent by weight of the copolymer have been discovered. These copolymers have unique properties, including low density, high chemical resistance, low elongation to break, low shrinkage, good processability, low water absorption and good clarity. The copolymers also may be used as an engineering plastic. A process for making these copolymers is also disclosed, with the process comprising reaction of the olefin or alpha-olefin with the cyclic olefin under polymerization conditions including a catalyst comprising a metal-ligand complex having a bridged bi-phenyl phenol ligand structure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 14, 2007
Date of Patent: May 5, 2009
Assignees: ExxonMobil Chemical Patents Inc., Symyx Technologies Inc.
