  • Publication number: 20070195826
Abstract: A method of receiving data packets. In the method of receiving data packets, a determination is made as to whether a received data packet is received out of an expected order. If the determining step determines a received packet is out of the expected order, a time period is calculated to wait for one or more missing data packets based at least in part on an expected time of receiving the one or more missing data packets.

  • Publication number: 20070049317
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for communication with at least one wireless unit over a forward and a reverse link in a wireless network. The method includes receiving a feedback indication on at least a first channel over the forward link for reception of a transmission on at least a second channel over the reverse link, and adjusting transmit power of a wireless unit associated with the network based on the feedback indication. For example, a transmitter at a wireless unit associated with a spread spectrum wireless network, such as a code division multiple access cellular network, may control transmit power of in a reverse link. Specifically, the feedback indication for reception of a traffic or control channel over the reverse link may be received on a channel that is available on the forward link for another purpose than providing power control feedback. In this way, the transmitter performs reverse link power control at the wireless unit.

  • Publication number: 20070049318
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus of wireless communication with at least one wireless unit The method includes detecting an indication of error in a plurality of traffic frames to control transmit power between at least a first and second forward link based on the indication of error. The method further includes receiving a plurality of consecutive traffic frames over at least two reverse links from a wireless unit to select a frame in soft handoff. To control transmit power, for example, a controller may perform reverse link error detection after frame selection. The controller detects a frame error to boost the transmit power, substantially correcting a link imbalance situation. In this way, by controlling transmit power in a spread spectrum wireless communication system to reduce call drops, a call drop rate may be significantly decreased while increasing capacity of radio frequency transmission.

  • Publication number: 20060292982
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling communications between a base station and a mobile device. • Publication number: 20060233110
Abstract: The number of Reverse Activity Bits (RABs) equal to “1” per frame is a Congestion Overload (CO) metric used to determine whether the reverse link in a wireless communications system is in a congestion overload state due to a reverse link RF overload. When the value of the CO metric exceeds a first predetermined threshold that is indicative of a congestion overload condition, the system enters a block state where all new connection requests are blocked. Once in the block state, if the value of the CO metric does not decrease but continues to increase and exceeds a second higher threshold, the system enters a mute state. In the mute state a predetermined large percentage of existing active calls are muted. Specifically, a message is sent downlink to specific ATs instructing them to reduce their transmission rates to zero but to still maintain their active connections.

  • Patent number: 7085580
Abstract: The power level of at least one forward-link signal is determined for a measurement interval, where the measurement interval has a duration smaller than or equal to the time period in which at least one power-indicative signal characteristic can change. For example, a power-indicative signal characteristic used can be the information rate of the signal, which can change once per frame. In this case the measurement interval would be smaller than or equal to a frame. Preferably, the measurement interval is smaller than the time period in which any of the power-indicative signal characteristics can change. The power level of the signal is based on the signal's power-indicative signal characteristics during the measurement interval. In one embodiment of the invention, the signal's power-indicative signal characteristics include the information rate, and the gain of the signal.

  • Publication number: 20060068717
Abstract: A method for controlling access of a subscriber station to a wireless communications system facilitates the maintenance of a performance target of the reverse link and desired geographic coverage of the reverse link. The method for controlling access of a subscriber station to a wireless communications system includes measuring a first performance indicator and a second performance indicator for a reverse link associated with a subscriber station seeking access to a wireless communications system. A blocking threshold value is established based upon the measured second performance indicator and may be adjusted to allow more or less blocking based on any additional metrics that characterize the performance of the current subscriber stations. The decision to grant or deny access of the subscriber station to the wireless communications system is determined based on a comparison of the measured first performance indicator to the established blocking threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20060063545
Abstract: A method for determining rise over thermal for a base station in a wireless communications system is provided. The method comprises receiving a first and second diversity signal, measuring the signal strength of the first and second diversity signals, and estimating the noise floor for the first and second diversity signals. The signal strength rise is determined for the first and second diversity signals based on the measured signal strength and estimated noise floor of the first and second diversity signals respectively. The rise over thermal is then determined based on the determined signal strength rise of the first and second diversity signals.

  • Publication number: 20060039282
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling a traffic-to-pilot ratio (TPR) in a wireless telecommunications channel. The methodology takes advantage of a preexisting feedback process used in hybrid ARQ transmission systems. Generally, information is transmitted over the communications channel, and then the acknowledgement (ACK) signal, or negative acknowledgements (NACK) signal, is used to adjust the TPR. The TPR is adjusted up substantially in response to receiving a NACK signal, and adjusted slightly down in response to receiving an ACK signal. In this manner, the TPR is rapidly adjusted up when a transmission fails, and is allowed to drift slowly down when a transmission succeeds.
