  • Publication number: 20060101023
Abstract: An application program for use in a hybrid computing environment comprising standalone, client-server, or Internet use is described. The application is written in a single code base and installed on a client computer that is configured for use as either a standalone or networked computer. Server side components of the application program are installed on a server computer configured to be coupled to client computers over a local or wide area network or over the Internet. Data and file resources utilized by the application program are installed locally on the client computer or on the server computer, or on a device remotely coupled to the network coupling the client and server computers. The application program is installed on the client computer for use as a standalone, client-server, or Internet application, or any combination thereof. At runtime, the user selects the mode of use in which the application program is to be executed.

  • Publication number: 20060069753
Abstract: An automated software update method for distributed client/server computers is described. A server process is executed a program on either a standalone computer or a server computer in a distributed client/server network environment. The program updates are either programmed into the server process directly or downloaded to the server in the background. When there is an update to the program, the server forces all client computers executing client-side processes of the server process to shutdown the client process. Alternatively, the server process notifies all clients that an update or maintenance procedure needs to be performed and schedules a disconnect request for all clients. When all clients are disconnected, the server downloads the program updates and performs an automated process to update itself. After the server program is updated, the server allows reconnection of the client computers.

  • Publication number: 20060059422
Abstract: A program module that serves as a dispatcher for client-side desktop applications that use web-based markup language as a graphic user interface to access both web resources and execute local functionalities is described. An embedded browser component within a desktop application allows the client computer to host markup language forms and interact with other web resources. The forms and resources can reside on the client computer or any other networked remote or server computer. The embedded web browser is functional as a stand-alone web browser as well as an interface adapter for the desktop application. Desktop application files or forms can be modified without recompilation of the underlying application code, and the adaptation of the desktop application interface to the web browser interface provides a consistent user interface design for both the desktop and web applications.

  • Publication number: 20060005036
Abstract: A hierarchical security model for networked computer users is described. Files and resources are controlled or created by users within the network. Each user within the network has an account that is managed by a network administrator. The account specifies the user identifier and password. Users are grouped into organizations depending upon function or other organizational parameter. The groups within the network are organized hierarchically in terms of access and control privileges. Users within a higher level group may exercise access and control privileges over files or resources owned by users in a lower level group. The account for each user further specifies the group that the owner belongs to and an identifier for any higher level groups that have access privileges over the user's group. All users within a group inherit the rights and restrictions of the group.

  • Publication number: 20060004651
Abstract: A loan origination and processing system is described. The system resides on a server computer that is coupled to a data store storing data related to a borrower. The server computer is further coupled to a brokerage network comprising a loan officer client, a loan processor client, and a broker manager client. Each brokerage client computer executes a unique interface to the loan origination and processing system. The brokerage network is coupled to third party users including lenders, underwriters, and settlement service providers. The brokerage interfaces display the pending loans in a list-based display, with each list entry representing a loan application for a particular borrower. Each interface for each individual type of brokerage client has unique access and display privileges with respect to the data stored in the data store. Process modules within the system define milestone events and alert conditions associated with each loan application.

  • Publication number: 20040158746
Abstract: An automatic log-in and password management system for on-line, electronic commerce systems is described. An automatic log-in module receives relevant transaction information from a user and processes this information for transactions to one or more target computers. The log-in procedure for access to a secure area within the target computer is stored as a script executable by the password management system. The processing system monitors user accesses to a target computer of the one or more target computers. A password management system detects a password entry requirement to initiate the transaction. The password management system accesses the appropriate password from a pre-stored database to obtain the password corresponding to the user identifier for the specific target client computer. The password management system then executes the stored log-in script and automatically populates the password or other access code into the appropriate access program of the client computer based on the user identifier.

  • Publication number: 20040034592
Abstract: A loan origination system interface module for processing loan applications from a user through a lender web site is described. The loan originator accesses a lender web site to perform loan processing procedures. The module is included on the lender's web page through a standard object reference in HTML specification. The module contains information unique to that lender, and the lender's identification number as well as desired data format. Once the loan originator decides to transfer a loan application or supplemental data to the lender, the module examines the loan origination software pipeline and presents a selection of loan products to the user. Once the user makes a selection, the module extracts loan information stored in the loan origination software by conducting a search for each required data field, relates that data to the specific field in the vendor application format, and packages the data in a format acceptable to the lender.

  • Publication number: 20030233316
Abstract: A loan submission and processing system is described. A processing and submission client/server system transmits relevant loan information from a borrower to one or more lender computer systems through pre-defined file templates, which are utilized during loan origination. An automatic data flow process from the origination screen populates the relevant fields in any other related loan forms and word processing documents. Different forms are supported for different types of loans. The loan originator computer system includes a loan origination software program integrated with a web-browser based interface system. The interface system couples the loan origination software program to one or more partner computers. The partners comprise loan underwriters, lenders, and settlement service vendors. The interface system provides dynamic formatting and data transmission for different connections depending on the transaction type and target partner.

  • Patent number: 5394382
Abstract: A data placement organization method that reduces the average seek time and the probability of maximum distance seeks of CD-ROM disks by a combination of symmetric structuring, frequency-based data placement, and data replication. The technique for fabricating a CD-ROM, including the data placement organization stage of the present invention includes a first stage wherein the data is designed, authored and prepared on a data processor or personal computer and stored on the hard disk memory. The data is then transferred from the hard disk temporary storage onto tape storage or optical disk storage. The data on the tape storage is then used as input to a CD-ROM mastering stage wherein, based on the content of the tape, holes are burned in a master CD mold which is used to press a large quantity of CDs. A data placement optimization stage is provided between the first processor stage 3 and the tape storage stage.
