  • Patent number: 8087081
Abstract: A client computer may be configured to perform computer security operation services, such as malicious code scanning and protection against online threats, using one of several remotely located server computers. The client computer may be configured to determine an operational state of the server computers and determine a protection status of the client computer resulting from use of a server computer of a particular operational state. The protection status may have one of at least three levels and indicate vulnerability of the client computer. The client computer may determine the operational state of a server computer based on available bandwidth for network communication between the client computer and the server computer. The client computer may be configured to allow for automatic or manual selection of another server computer when the currently selected server computer results in the client computer having a protection status below a threshold level.

  • Patent number: 8085433
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method wherein each pixel is tagged with a special VI (Variable Information) flag, which indicates the color of the pixel is variable or fixed. When the document gets created during raster image processing (“ripping”), the output CMYK of the VI and non-VI pixels are constrained to be odd and even numbers, respectively. In the meantime, a special TRC is created, and the VI colors are obtained through this special TRC at the odd indices, while the non-VI colors are obtained through the even indices. To enable the variable colorization printing, the job needs to be ripped once and saved. The saved job then can be reprinted multiple times with different TRCs that have the same values at the even indices, but different values at the odd indices.

  • Patent number: 8084996
Abstract: An embodiment contemplates a method for estimating a capacity of a battery. A state of charge is determined at a first instant of time and at a second instant of time. A difference in the state of charge is determined between the first instant of time and the second instant of time. A net coulomb flow is calculated between the first instant of time and the second instant of time. The battery capacity is determined as a function of the change in the state of charge and the net coulomb flow.

  • Patent number: 8085859
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, a Fourier transform unit converts unsynchronized data received through multiple antennas to a frequency domain. Also, a spectrum estimation unit determines a power spectrum for the unsynchronized data. A notch filter removes data within a frequency band from additional unsynchronized data based on the power spectrum. A synchronization unit synchronizes the notch filtered data and a noise estimation unit determines a noise covariance matrix between the synchronized data received from multiple antennas. In addition, an equalization unit performs channel equalization on the synchronized data based on the noise covariance matrix.

  • Patent number: 8084737
Abstract: An array-based ion storage system includes an ion generation section, and an ion storage section having a first end electrode coupled to the ion generation section and having multiple holes, a second end electrode having multiple holes, an intermediate electrode having multiple holes, a first insulator formed as a ring between the first end electrode and the intermediate electrode, and a second insulator formed as a ring between the intermediate electrode and the second end electrode. The ion storage section can be made thinner to facilitate consistency in ion extraction and reduce the spread of an ion mobility spectrum peak. The insulators have a big hole, and the ions cannot bump onto the insulation material during ion vibration or thermal movement in the storage space. Therefore, charge transfer and accumulation at the insulator and the subsequent discharge will not occur, suppressing instability of storage and loss of ions.
