  • Patent number: 7355808
Abstract: A method and apparatus for partial self-servo writing a disk surface in a disk drive using servo wedge propagation is provided. In one embodiment, servo information is written by a servo track writer near an outer diameter of the disk surface. The servo information is grouped into a 1x set of servo information and a 2x set of servo information. The disk drive's read head is used to read the 1x set of servo information in order to position the disk drive's write head to write servo information which is radially-aligned with the 2x set of servo information. Then, the disk drive's read head is used to read the 2x set of servo information in order to position the disk drive's write head to write servo information which is radially-aligned with the 1x set of servo information. The process is repeated on a track-by-track basis until servo information is written from the outer diameter of the disk surface to the inner diameter of the disk surface, as if it was entirely written by a servo track writer.

  • Patent number: 7230789
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for performing a self-servo write operation in a disk drive. In one embodiment, the disk drive includes a disk surface having a read head and a write head associated therewith. Spiral servo information is written onto the disk surface using a servo track writer. The read head reads the spiral servo information and is used to position the write head, which writes a small band of final servo information onto the disk surface. The small band of final servo information may be embedded servo information. Importantly, the small band of final servo information is not written using the servo track writer. The write head is also used to write self-servo write instructions into the small band of final servo information. Subsequently, the self-servo write instructions are read and a self-servo write operation is performed using the spiral servo information.

  • Patent number: 7215499
Abstract: A disk drive and method are provided for controlling seeking of a transducer that is adjacent to a rotatable data storage disk in a disk drive. The disk drive includes an actuator for positioning the transducer relative to the disk, the method comprising. The actuator is controlled to move the transducer toward a target track on the disk during an initial phase of a seek mode during which the transducer is primarily accelerated toward the target track. During a settle phase of the seek mode which follows the initial phase the actuator is controlled to settle the transducer onto the target track. An initial position, an initial velocity, and an initial acceleration of the transducer are determined at a phase switch time at about when control of the actuator switches from the initial phase to the settle phase of the seek mode. Feed-forward control information is generated based on the determined initial position, initial velocity, and initial acceleration of the transducer.

Abstract: The present invention disclosures a central air-conditioning energy conservation fuzzy control method and fuzzy controller, including: micro-computer, input circuit, output circuit, protective circuit, communication interface circuit, power and micro-computer control program, it is based on the human (expert)'s rich experience and thought to form a fuzzy rule to make inference and judgment, it imitate the expert to resolve the complicated problems in the air-conditioner operation. The precise mathematical model has no need to be established for the controlled central air-conditioner, but only the fuzzy description is needed to realize the controlling. This kind of controlling is more conform the complexity, dynamics and fuzziness of the central air-conditioner, it makes the controlling simple and could realize a best central air-conditioning system operation—safety, comfort and energy conservation.

  • Patent number: 7158325
Abstract: A disk drive detects head touchdown based on a magnitude of a position error signal at a discrete frequency. The discrete frequency is one-half the disk rotation frequency or an integral multiple of the disk rotation frequency. The head is heated by turning on a heater at the discrete frequency, thereby injecting bias into a servo system that increases the PES magnitude. In addition, the servo system has a first transfer function for tracking the head during read and write operations and a second transfer function for tracking the head during head touchdown detection. The second transfer function has smaller vibration rejection than the first transfer function so that the disk drive is less sensitive to vibration during read and write operations than during head touchdown detection.
