    Abstract: A dry-lubricating apparatus, for press fitting onto a mating part, includes (a) a frame, (b) a rubber gasket fixed to the frame to create an interference with a mating surface of the mating part so as to enable the press fitting, and (c) a lead-in edge fixed to at least one of the frame and the rubber gasket. The lead-in edge includes a dry lubricant such that, when the dry-lubricating apparatus is slid onto the mating part, along the mating surface and with the rubber gasket trailing the lead-in edge, a portion of the dry lubricant is abraded off the lead-in edge to reduce friction between the rubber gasket and the mating surface.

    Abstract: A leather flange for a bidirectional seal assembly includes a radial flange leg encircling a rotation axis of the leather flange. The leather flange also includes an oblique flange leg encircling the rotation axis and joined to the radial flange leg. The oblique flange leg extends both radially inward and axially away from the radial flange leg to form an oblique angle with the rotation axis. An end face of the oblique flange leg forms a sinusoidal pattern around a circumference of the leather flange. The end face also meets an air-side surface of the oblique flange leg to form a lip. When the leather flange is installed around a shaft, the lip forms a sinusoidal path around the circumference of the shaft. As the shaft rotates, the sinusoidal path of the lip creates an axial back-and-forth sweeping action.

    Abstract: A heavy duty composite oil seal with an outer cup and a plastic inner cup. The outer cup includes a major diameter mounting flange portion terminating in a curl, a minor diameter wear sleeve portion, and a transition portion joining the major and minor diameter portions. There is an elastomeric seal body and an embedded stiffener, with the elastomeric seal body having a sealing lip contacting the inner axial surface of the wear sleeve portion. There is a plastic inner cup member with an axial flange substantially co-extensive with the mounting flange and entrapped along the major diameter flange portion between the curl portion and the transition portion of the outer cup. The inner cup also has a radially extending flange that engages a radial portion of the elastomeric seal body. The plastic inner cup member has plural, evenly spaced diagonal braces extending between and joining the axial flange and the radial flange of the inner cup.
