  • Patent number: 5163194
Abstract: A cervical pillow is provided having a multi-component polyurethane foam construction with an upper portion, intermediate portion and foundation portion. The upper portion includes a convoluted support surface preferably having multi-density upwardly extending protrusions and is laminated to the intermediate portion. The intermediate portion is configured having two generally perpendicular channel depressions of equal depth for supporting and stabilizing the head and neck in an anatomically neutral position, the upper portion conforming to the channels and communicating the channel contour to the support surface. Local support adjustment along one channel is facilitated by a cut-out in the intermediate portion which houses a removable insert. The foundation portion includes a removable base to provide adjustable vertical height of the support surface to adapt to a wide range of users.

  • Patent number: 5123132
Abstract: An anti-snoring pillow which reduces the snoring by the user when sleeping by positioning the head of the user such that the degree of blockage in the user's breathing passageway is reduced. The anti-snoring pillow includes a base member which is preferably inclined and has a curved front edge which is lower in height than the rear edge. The upper surface of the base member adjacent the front edge has an elongated bolster secured thereto, which bolster is curved along its length to conform to the curved shape of the front edge of the base member. The bolster also includes a curved peripheral cross-sectional area for comfortable support of a user's neck. The bolster and the base member, and the choice of materials therefor act in conjunction to ensure comfort and also the positioning of a user's head so as to decrease the blockage of the user's breathing passageway when the user is in a back or in a side sleeping position.

  • Patent number: 4320543
Abstract: A medical pillow providing stabilized support for the head and neck of the user and incorporating a convoluted upper surface is disclosed. The pillow is typically rectangular and has a generally flat bottom and a contoured top. The contoured top has a central depression for placement of the user's head therein and a neck supporting depression area extending between the head supporting depression and one side of the pillow. The head and neck depression areas are curved to conform to the curvature of the user's head and neck. The surface of the top is convoluted to provide more uniform vertical support and improved lateral support for the head and neck.
