A user interface is generated that presents a first result set of items from an electronic item database. The user interface includes one or more user interface components configured to elicit a user selection from multiple user intentions. A particular user intention is determined, then a set of refinement attributes corresponding to the particular user intention is identified. An updated result set of items that matches the set of refinement attributes is determined. The user interface is then updated to present the updated result set of items in place of the result set of items.
